AIBU?

I'm having frozen mash for Christmas dinner and one of those Iceland ice cream bottles

I hate doing mash, unnecessary labour for something dull.

I'm also doing the Roast potatoes in the Actifry.

AND

I'm having a chocolate ice cream bottle for pudding. With Heston Ponce Pies.

I'm not remotely unreasonable.

Nothing is unreasonable if it results in chocolate ice cream with toffee bits in a novelty shape.

I'm having ready are dauphinoise potatoes with my turkey because we're not entertaining anyone and I love them.

Yanbu - have whatever you like.

And what is a chocolate ice cream bottle please?

Iceland have done a creamy chocolatey toffeish ice cream shaped like a bottle. It's got gold sprinkled on it and everything.

And that little gem, will be tucked into at chez dragon on the 25th. Oh yes.

Frozen mash is lovely, I also love Aunt Bessie's carrot and swede mash, that is the dog's bollocks.

Frozen rules!

DD has asks us to buy that Ice Cream bottle Honey. I was just going to do my usual fake ice-cream cake thing, but that's even easier.

Although I'm also tempted by the M&S Brownie gold rings cake.

No no Mumraa you're doing it all wrong.

OP YABVVU, you are damaging your kids by not starting making your Christmas dinner in October, commencing with homemade brandy fed fruitcake, moving through sloe gin and sweet chestnut stuffing (gathered yourself of course) and then getting up at 3am on Xmas day to start stuffing the turkey.

Why did you have kids if you don't like christmas?

I think that ice cream bottle looks fab! I'm not hosting but might need to take one with me.

Christmas dinner is going to be egg and chips, bread and butter and champagne followed by my own body weight in chocolate.

No guests this year, just me and OH. Can't wait. Grin

We're doing as much ready made stuff as possible for Christmas dinner. I'd far rather spend the day with the dcs and playing with their new stuff instead of taking ages in the kitchen. Frozen potatoes, frozen yorkshire puds (I know they're not traditionally Chrismas food but we like them), chicken instead of turkey, bought dessert (I like the look of the Ice cream bottle too!). The whole dinner should take about 20 mins in the kitchen, if that.

Oh I've googled it and am disappointed ! It's a half a bottle! Flat on one side!

I envisioned a full bottle!

My home-made mash isn't any better than Aunt Bessie's frozen stuff so I really can't be arsed any more. YADNBU. What are the Heston pies, though? If they're those mince pies with loo cleaner pine sugar YABU - they're vile.

I would like some sort of terrible dessert though. What can I have? I don't bake. Don't like pudding...

Honeydragon · 29/11/2014 18:07

If you don't have mash with Christmas dinner what soaks up the gravy?

I love my actifry. I might stick the Aunt Bessie's parsnips in too, then keep them warm in the top oven.

I made the vegetarian gravy for my son in law's Christmas nut-roast yesterday. I'm buying a load of M & S roasties (basted in oil, not yummy dripping or goose-fat, bah!) because of him, too. And frozen parsnips, sage and onion stuffing and chestnut stuffing.

With Christmas dinner for eleven, incl. a vegetarian, I'm after any short cut there is. And I do fancy that Iceland bottle thing ... will look for it tomorrow at our local store.

Tonight, I'm heating up cooking Waitrose mash. But the boeuf en daube is made from scratch Grin
