advent calenders and discipline

Popped into Tescos to buy the kids advent calenders. They were 2 for 3 pounds and as I have 3 kids I thought I might as well buy 4 calenders. I've put the kids' calenders away until Monday but I've just secretly eaten the whole spare calender. Is this normal?

Just scrunched it up and put in in a plastic bag in the bin. kids and dh would be horrified if they found the empty calender (blush)

I remember as a kid I slid the plastic tray out and ate all the chocolate lol. I remember you used to get a big chocolate on Christmas Eve but now it's just the same size as all the rest and there are no pictures anymore.

I was sent a really special one for my birthday this year (full of licorice from Denmark) and I ate it all! Please don't tell my mum!

I went to asda last week and saw they were selling Lindt Lindor 3 for £10. Always give the kids a box for Christmas so bought 3.
Got home and went to stash them away in my wardrobe when I found I'd already bought 3 boxes! I've no recollection of when I did that.
So now I have plenty of boxes I've done the only thing I could and may well have eaten a box already in secret.
Will take a lot of willpower not to break into another before Christmas.

I remember the days of glittery, snowy, pretty advent calendars... not these fakey chocolate-riddled ones... where's the romance in those? Nobody bothers to look at the pictures behind the chocolate... pfft

I get bought an advent calendar every year by my mum (for the record, I'm 26, not 6) and since leaving home, I've never had the discipline to eat one a day. I get through the first few days, ignore it for ages then eat it all in one go. I feel like a pig after .

My DC are 16,23,24 and they now have 2 each as Haskins yesterday had 'Divine' chocolate calendars for £2 each. I couldn't resist as they are so pretty and the 24th has a large chocolate!
I also bought a lovely Advent candle half price but I shall be sneaking some of the chocolate

When I was a kid we got a picture behind each door. Chocolate calendars were a long way off!

As a child I used to eat all mine in advance then have my brothers chocolate on the proper days, as he always forgot. Win win!

I did suggest to the kids that I could get a pretty non-chocolate calender and a Quality street box so they could open a window each morning and then choose a choc each from the box. Glad they said no to that, I would probably have scoffed half the tin by now

I'm going to get flamed but think my dcs are probably the only ones who still open a calendar with pictures. Point blank refuse to buy one with chocolate or one which doesn't depict the nativity. Dcs are now 24, 21 and 12 and still love opening the doors and reporting with satisfaction " candle" , "star", " angel".
I make them write old fashioned thank you letters too!

I have to say I remember being far more excited by the pretty sparkly advent calendars with pictures in than my children are by the chocolate ones. In fact this has made me decide to get a non choc one for dd. I think she will appreciate it, she's that kind of child. Ds has the Star Wars Lego calendar so won't give two hoots .

I've never bought a chocolate one.

We have two Playmobil ones (you open a box a day and it builds up to make a Christmas scene) and alternate them by year. I did suggest that maybe they were a bit old and we wouldn't bother this year, but the DCs were utterly horrified, so oneof my jobs this weekend is putting the bits in the right boxes again...

DCs are 18 and 15!
