To never buy anything fresh from this supermarket again.

at the supermarket this morning was looking around the bakery, a dog (possibly a stray), came running in, it was filthy and had no collar.
It ran straight into the bakery behind the counter where all the bread is baked.
There was a huge trolley of freshly baked rolls and the dog started sniffing these. No one in the bakery even noticed, we tried to get someones attention and it ran further into the back. Then two staff members came up and tried to entice it out. I guess they saw it run in, they were specifically looking at it
It came out they caught it and took it to the front of the store.
I tried to tell the baker that the dog had its face in the bread and he just wasnt listening and went off in the other direction where he came from.
I tried to tell someone else near the till and all he said was "Im sure the bakery know about it".
So, basically it seemed as if none of the staff care that some maingy mutt had its face in the baked goods, and will be putting them out for some poor person to buy.
It is, quite frankly disgusting.
I appreciate they couldve thrown them out or something later, but they really just didnt seem bothered.
I turned to dh and said Ill not buy anything fresh/unpackaged again from there again and he just said Im overreacting, its not something that will happen a lot.

I do see your point but I bet it's not the worst thing that happens to baked goods in a typical supermarket day.

I once watched a (particularly blessed in the mucus region) child lick the open bread, and loads of it, in Morrisons. I told the baker and the parents, who were watching fondly (filthy twats). The baker said he'd sort it. He scuttled into the back and disappeared. I waited. And waited. Eventually I phoned the store and asked for the manager. Told him. To be fair he was not impressed and got the baker out to bin all the stuff.
And that's yet another reason why I'll never touch the open offerings.

I hope someone didn't just let the dog go when they got it to the front of the store? Your DH is correct but then you're not actually wrong either. I don't buy anything uncovered that I can't wash from any supermarket.

tidy they put an announcement in case the owner was instore (they may have tied it up outside while shopping), when we paid we saw a shop assistant with it in a trolley by the door.

I'd never buy anything that was 'loose' in a supermarket.

I've seen many children fondle bread rolls, donuts, etc. I thought everyone dodged 'fresh' products unless they were washable or they'd made them themselves.

Environmental Health are the go-to people. They came out and confiscated all the bread in our local bread shop once. On a Saturday. Someone had phoned them re: a dog sniffing round the freshly delivered broad on the trolley before the owners arrived to open up shop. Same shop, another year, got the stock of bread shapes made out of off-cuts (mice, rabbits etc) confiscated from their outside display after children had been seen handling them.

They put a dog in a trolley which people will use for foodstuffs? Shock

It's bad enough when people put their children in a trolley, let alone a bloody stray dog!!

I used to work in a supermarket bakery in a very posh part of London about a decade ago. No one ever washed their hands, it was disgusting. They had rats in there also. One ended up being killed with a metal rod (by a manager) only a few footsteps from the freshly baked rolls.
