AIBU re Skinny Dipping

I have a house with a pool. The pool area has 16ft trees around the whole area, and no one can see in to the pool area, so it is very private. No neighbours overlook our yard, I have just been told that IBU to swim naked in my own pool. The only time I do so is when it is in the evening (after dark), and the pool is surrounded by 16ft bushes, and I don't turn on the lights, so there is no possible way anyone could see anyone swimming in the pool. During daylight hours I wear a swimsuit of course, and if there is anyone else with me. But in the evenings, when DS is in bed, I like to go for a swim, and I often go without my swimsuit. I've just been absolutely berated because I said that I often swim naked at night. So I hand this over to the MN jury to settle this debate. Can I swim in the buff in my own pool?

Who's berated you? If it is as private as you say, how culd anyone know?

YANBU but I may be biased by living in Sweden where most people wouldn't even notice or care if you swam in the buff in the public pool on a Saturday afternoon.

Huh? Berated by whom?? They're weird, whoever they are.

You are totally NBU. I'd probably swim naked during the day too, if I were you. Grin

I'd definitely swim naked if I had my own pool... I'm jealous!!

I assume you aren't in the UK. I think you have to be pretty mad intrepid to go swimming outside at this time of year in the UK. Provided you don't offend the laws of the country you live in, I see nothing wrong with skinny dipping in your own private pool. Its no different to having a bath.

Berated by workmates during a lunchtime discussion when I admitted I swim naked in my pool. I've been called 'disgusting', 'exhibitionist' and 'show-off".

Hold the phone! I bet you are the type to have a bath naked too?! Shock

I don't think it's even counted as skinny dipping in your own pool on your own! That's like asking if you can be a nudist in your own bed.

You can swim in whatever you like in your own pool.

How can you be an exhibitionist or a show off if there's no-one there to see? Surely that's just poor logic.

And YAsoNBU - I'm very envious.

Grin

Or maybe they were saying the baths in their rented accomodation were tiny and you said "The only way to get clean is to swim naked in your own pool, girls!"

Honestly. Who cares what they think. Move on and don't overshare in the office - they're bonkers!

It was 31C here today. DS and I had a swim (both clothed) from 5pm to 6:30pm. DS went to bed at 7:00pm (his usual bedtime). I then went back out and let the dogs in to the pool area for an hour (and I was wearing a swimsuit) and we played fetch and various other retrieving games. Sun went down about 8:15pm (Daylight Savings), and I went back out at about 9pm for a swim by myself. I had a bathing suit on, but when I got in the water I removed it, and swam for about 45 minutes without it on. I then put the bathing suit back on before getting out of the water and drying myself off with a towel and coming inside.

No way!! I'd love to skinny dip. Sad bastards! In this country it is not illegal to be naked per se. Although if you went out in public naked you might get taken away, cold or both.

Apparently it is 'dirty' because you are naked. Because you must give off far more germs when naked in a swimming pool than if you are wearing a swimsuit.

I think my only concern would be whether you'd hear DS if he needed you (assuming he's relatively young if his bedtime is 7pm).

But then I may be scarred by the memory of my 4 year old dripping vomit and poo downstairs when he was taken ill at the weekend and we didn't hear him calling from his bedroom. I didn't mind having more mess to clear up, but he was really distressed.

Well swimwear does help to contain unexpected bouts of faecal incontinence. Maybe your workmates suffer from this?

Ha ha the joyless idiots:). I am fairly repressed in normal life but show me a lake on a hot day and I am in with a brief attempt at finding a quiet spot.

well, do they mean unhygenic (wtf?) or exhibitionist - they're not the same! And how can you be an exhibitionist if no-one can actually see you?

Your colleagues sound like idiots.

DS is about to turn three, and the pool is just outside the back door of the living room of the house. I would be able to hear him if he were upset.
