AIBU?

To not understand the obsession with Jennifer Anniston's relationship status?

Every time I read Grazia ( weekly) they run an article on her relationship with her beau Justin. One week she is going strong, the next they are on the rocks ad nauseous etc. usually any speculation about the state of her relationship is based on very tenuous gossip. And all this baby stuff.
I feel for her , especially after Brad ran off but also I'm bored by this kind of article . It's dull.

Stop reading grazia. And also any of these other magazines. It's tedious but they're not going to stop printing this tripe. Vote with your feet and buy something more interesting,

I used to love Grazia, it was a bit different. Now it's obsessed with Aniston , Paltrow etc. A story every single week.

Grazia is a giant bag of shite and their fourth hand 'quotes' make my teeth itch.

As for the obsession. She's a 40 something childless serial monogamist, as far as we know, and therefore must be some sort of sad Bridget Jones character Hmm

Definitely not a wealthy and glamorous woman in her prime shagging a succession of epic fitties Hmm Hmm

You could always stop reading mags you no longer like.

And MN has a 'Sleb Twaddle' topic which (if used) means it would be easy to hide the whole damned subject here. (It's a less used topic than it used to be. But no reason why it shouldn't be active again).

I think there's an element of finger pointing. Ooh look at you.

In the 'Friends' era she was the one blokes fancied. Women wanted her hairstyle or just wanted to be her. She married Brad Pitt. More envy from women.

Then it all ended/went wrong. Her marriage to Brad Pitt ended courtesy of Angelina (swivel eyed) Jolie. Her career nosedived. People went from envy to pity almost overnight.

I think most people want her to have a happy ever after, after Brad and Angelina "done her wrong".

I like Jennifer Aniston. I think she is a very good comic actress (who happens to have been in some crappy films!). Hopefully all these articles are a load of rubbish and she's actually perfectly happy! Smile

I don't understand the obsession with reading magazines centred around celebrity gossip if you're not interested in celebrity gossip.

To quote someone or other, "Other magazines are available." Women no more have to read "women's magazines" than little girls have to wear pink.

I cancelled my Grazia subscription due to their enduring obsession with Jennifer Aniston.

She hasn't been in a decent film for years, it is only her love life that keeps her in magazines.

Her career hardly nosedived! She's been in a handful of not too bad romcom movies since Brad left. I quite enjoyed Wanderlust and the bounty hunter. Marley and Me has done alright for itself too Wink. Derailed was brilliant!

Agreed on the over obsession with her love life. Constantly pressurising her to get married again and have children. She'll be 46 in February, I think it's almost fair to say biological children are unlikely now. It's still possibly possible but it's not looking like that's the route she wants to take. Leave her be! I quite liked her with Vince Vaughn though, it's a shame they broke up Wink.

I really dislike mags aimed at women- i have a look at the front of them for a laugh - always a picture of Judy Finnigan or Lorraine kelly looking distraught so i take a peek ( looking like i really want to buy it) and its usually rubbish or from a 'source, 'which was probably phone hacking in the past and not their friends at all. As for ms Anniston, i dont get the hype. Although she was funny in a film with Ben stiller, only thing ive ever seen her in. I saw her on an american show being interviewed in front of budding actors. She seemed very cold and not at all engaging at all.

Its basically sexism Matthew Perry who played Chandler in Friends was single for a long time (i dont know if he still is) but he is still unmarried. He doesnt get all this peeping and prying into his private life though.

I think Jennifer deals with it quite well from what ive seen.

Its a patriarchial thing because a woman is assumed to be unhappy unless she belongs to a man.

Thats why Matthew gets left alone and Jennifer doesnt!

Matthew Perry was with Lizzie Caplan for years, until recently.

The reason he has managed to have a private life and Jennifer Aniston has not is because he does not have a whole media machine behind him ensuring he remains in magazines and therefore "current".

I don't know anybody under 35 who is interested in Jennifer Aniston and yet she's in the magazines time and time again.

Post of the week by Charitybelle there in my opinion. I stopped reading most women's 'lifestyle magazines' years ago. I have no problem with anyone else reading them but I found them so annoying, obsessed with appearance, celebrity focused and prescriptive towards women they just angered me. Marie Claire had the odd interesting article once upon a time about women's issues globally, but then that seemed to go too. There was no point in reading them for me.

I have bought Good Housekeeping recently (I am getting old Smile ) just for ideas for hosting Christmas. Each to their own, I guess there is a place for these magazines as light entertainment by those who don't find them so irritating, but they haven't been for me since I was about 19.

I used to like Grazia too but it's turned into a replica of every other trash celeb mag. Haven't bought it in a couple of years.

I really feel for Jennifer Anniston, she may well be the happiest woman in the world, great career, great relationship, great life but the celeb mags are determined to portray her as 'poor childless, unmarried Jennifer'.
