AIBU?

to hate smokers

I don't actually hate the people (well, not all of them anyway), but I find it so disgusting walking though someone's cloud of smoke. There was just a woman having a cigarette next to the door of my office building and there is no way for me to enter the building other than though hercloud of death! And that happens frequently. Would IBU to bring this up with our office manager and ask for this to be banned?
Actually I wish all smoking in public could be banned, or at least in all bus stops and doorways that have people coming in and out of. In fact they should have designated areas only and those areas should be easily avoidable by others. But I don't suppose this will happen anytime soon...

I find the same - since the ban on smoking inside public places, offices and so on, lots of building have smoking shelters just near a door to the outside. I have to walk past a smoking shelter every morning to get in to my work and I hate it.

You could try asking your manager to find out about moving the designated smoking zone to somewhere further away, or about setting one up if there isn't one.

I am also Angry about the fact that smokers get more breaks than non smokers. It seems to be OK to take 15 mins out for a smoke in the middle of the day, but if I just went out for a chat, then that's another story...

Bastards should all be sent to some sort of island away from everyone else shouldn't they... Hmm

No I don't hate them, I pity them. How sad is to smoke when everyone knows the long term health risk? It does annoy me when people smoke at bus stops.

Cloud of death?!

Sounds like a great name for a metal band, but a tad over the top for walking past someone smoking.

I smoke, I don't take any extra breaks (one on the way to work, one at lunchtime, one on the way home). I don't smoke in bus shelters, doorways, picnic tables with kids nearby, play parks etc. I smoke walking along the street. I hold it in front of me so it doesn't catch anyone, particularly small children who seems to be at optimum fag waving height (people that do that piss me off when I'm out with my 2 children, who incidentally I don't smoke near or in front of). I try to avoid inhaling or exhaling near other people when walking on the street.

I do everything I can not to piss non-smokers off, other than giving up of course Grin, but I do enjoy my 5 skinny rollies a day...

There are some seriously ignorant smokers out there.
I would never smoke in a door way where people had to walk past me.
I won't smoke walking down the street as I think it's just horrible for other people who don't smoke.
They litter the place with their cigarette ends. Drives me mad.
And.... I smoke!!
I do only smoke 2 or 3 a day and they are usually on my patio area.
Only other time I smoke is when out and about drinking in a proper designated area.
Your office should have an area where they can go to.
It should be sheltered with 2/3rd open.
I think it depends what sort of land/car park you have at your disposal.

I think you're in the minorithy Offally, but you are very considerate. On behalf of non-smokers I thank you.

I don't hate smokers either - I do hate cigarette smoke though.

I find meat-eating disgusting - dead flesh, dripping fat, shovelled burgers, ugh ugh ugh - but hey, I have to get on with it and tolerate those who want to do it.

It's their right to smoke outside now they can't indoors anymore. You're only walking past it for a second, imagine smelling like that all the time. Feel sorry for them.

Meat eating doesn't risk the health of those who do not wish to partake though does it and smoking does...

I feel sorry for anyone with an addiction.
However at 39 weeks pregnant I did not enjoy going to see my GP for a checkup yesterday, walking through a cloud of smoke outside the front door, then once I'd sat in waiting room, being approached by one of the smokers who sat next to me stinking all faggy and gross.
I covered my nose with my scarf and hoped I wasn't offending him!

I don't hate smokers. I smoked for 30 years, and to be honest you're more likely to be harmed by exhaust fumes when you are out in the open. If they are standing blocking your office entrance, yes, then a friendly word with a manager may solve the problem.

I have never been a smoker but I understand that they have an addiction and need a smoke.
I think this vilification of smokers has gone too far.

I smoked for years. It's, you know, hard to give up. The places smokers can be is smaller and smaller. Outside is great, not near kids, cloud of death can waft away, fabulous.

YWBU to hate all smokers on principle, yes. But you've only put that as the thread title for traffic so really you're just hoping to get loads of people here agreeing with you and saying negative things about something you don't like. Not unreasonable, just boring.
