I can't sleep under a 10.5tog I've still got the 4.5 one on. If I'm cold I'd rather wear layers then I can strip something off.

It would be if you were me. Try sticking out a leg, it helps. Dh and I have our own covers, as he likes to sleep with just a sheet or very light cover and I just like it a bit warmer.

Musical we have separate sheets too. Thought we were the only ones as people look at me strangely when I tell them.

YABU. I have 14.5/13.5 (whatever the highest is) all year round and it's sheer perfection. Grin

It is still too warm for such a heavy duvet! I am still using the summer blankets.

Dh has a 10 tog all year round. No idea how that man can sleep in it. I have a 4.5 tog and add cellular blankets as I sleep with ds. It's a good thing we have separate rooms or I'd never sleep.

10.5!?

I'd have to have the window open and no heating if I had a 10.5 tog. And I feel the cold!

I sleep with an 8tog plus a blanket on top.

Do you have the heating on as well?

Yanbu.

4.5 tog here unless the outside temps drop to well below zero. I feel sufficated under a heavier weight.

magimedi · 14/11/2014 07:31

4.5 tog here - with a fleece throw if it's a chilly night.

105 tog only comes out if it's going to be well below freezing all night.

It's quite normal in Sweden to have seperated bed clothes. You can get duvets that we mixd rating, or sew two singles together maybe.

I have an 8.5 dp has a 4.5, I love having separate duvets

People who only have 4.5 - do you have the heating on overnight?

Report
skylark2 · 14/11/2014 08:02

I don't see why it makes a difference whether it's you or the quilt - it's still causing you not to sleep. Though if you feel sick you probably have a bug (which might also be why you are too hot).

I would get separate quilts, or use a lighter one and DH can have a blanket on top of just his side (that's what we do, I get cold long before my DH).

Our heating is at 15°c overnight. I have a lovely baavet 13 tog. Dh has his own room and many blankets of different weights. He sleeps in a cocoon.

No heating on overnight & 4.5 is fine.

separate duvets.
I have 12 tog (all year round) and dh has 6 tog.
plus no one pulls the duvet off me and his farts stay safe on his side.

Do you have separate single duvets or double? How does it look when you make the bed.

We have summer weight all year round and I pile my side up like princess and the pea with throws and quilts.

We also have separate duvets. I swear it's saved our marriage Smile

YANBU. I also struggle under such a heavy duvet and our heating is off!

No, but the temperature doesn't drop below 15 degrees with it off, even if there's snow on the ground outside. (Well-insulated flat.)

If you're feeling sick, it may be you need more air in the bedroom at night. I use a 15 tog goose down duvet all year round. No heating on at night, and the window wide open even in winter. That way you get air while your body is nice and warm. If you don't fancy an open window, try opening it for an hour or so before you go to bed, to get plenty of fresh air into the room. Two people breathing all night long will deplete the oxygen quite a bit. I find when sleeping in a hotel for example that I feel 'hot and sick' if the window can't be opened.

We have 9 tog, no heating and the window open.

It is absolutely freezing at the moment when we come into the bedroom, so we have to lie there huddled and shivering for a bit, but I am always toasty warm after a few minutes. Definitely wouldn't want a thicker quilt, it would be stifling.

To all the people who put blankets over their duvets, this squashes the duvet and reduces it's effectiveness over time. It's more effective to put the blankets under the duvet.
Hope this comes across ok and not as if I'm a know it all Confused
