AIBU?

AIBU to share offers on Christmas toys my friends and I have found?

Ok, So quite a small thing in the grand scheme of things... but something that seems to have caused some bad feelings with a friend.

Every year while Christmas shopping I notice lots of offers and discount codes that I simply wouldn't use myself but always know somebody who would. So for the last couple of years myself and a few friends have been emailing a round robin with these offers on.

We have decided to set up a Facebook page this year to help others. I have been the one that has set this up as I am the only one who knows how and has the time at the moment. Everyone in the group about 5 of us was in agreement this would be a good idea.

I set everything up today...this evening I get a rather rude text followed up with a email regarding the page. My friend has basically told us we are being unreasonable posting offers we have all found already as she has brought some of these as gifts for friends and family and know everyone will know the prices.

This was then followed up with a group email to everyone accept me about how she thought we were her friends and so should support her points.

Now, let me put this Facebook page into context, it was set up today. It currently has 4 people liking the page ( although hoping to get a lot more people...let me know if interested ;-) ) and nowhere is friends name mentioned.

Have we genuinely done something to offend?

No but just to keep the peace, I would just include new offers or ones that she didnt use.

She's being bloody ridiculous. What happened to the thought being what counts anyway? If anyone she knows would be offended knowing she bought their gift on sale, they're a tit too.

How sad!

I meant to say that it's sad what some people get excited about. Having said that though, at least it means there's nothing seriously bad happening in their lives!

Your friend is bonkers!

Does she really think that when she gives someone a gift their first thought is the cost? If it's something someone likes why does the cost matter?

If someone bought me a book, for example, I'd much rather they bought it on Amazon or from The Book People than paid Waterstone's prices. It's still the same gift - It's a waste of money to pay more than you need to.

If you can pay less for something it's foolhardy not to.

What!

She is being ridiculous. I love nothing better than a bargain. No one I know would be bothered by this, I always share offers with people. Why would you want to keep it to yourself when you can save other money. Confused

I'd love a share of the page please!! Love bargains!! Your friend is being stupid about it, why would anyone care what she paid, she could have paid more in a different shop.

I don't use Facebook so no idea if you've already listed the Little Bird website but if not here's the link...

Little Bird.

Some great deals there on books, theatre trips, gifts, etc so you might want to add it to your Facebook page.

Don't worry, you haven't said anything bad about your friend (Hullo there!), you just wanted advice.

I don't think YABU btw.

Yes, you bloody Scrooge, this thread is about you (lol).

On a more serious note, I really wouldn't worry about what someone spends on me or mine for Christmas. Although, I would personally be quietly pleased if they managed to buy an amazing present or toy for half price.

I think your friend is bonkers - there are far more serious things to get her knickers in a twist over at this time of year.

I don't think you have done anything wrong - presumably anyone with access to the internet could find the deals you have spotted, you are just collecting them together for handy access without trawling through hundreds of sites. If she is worried that the recipients of her gifts will find out how much she spent and be upset, that says more about them than it does about you or her, so shouldn't be a cause for concern.

WRT your update - I don't think your OP is particularly bad. You are asking for perspectives from others to understand her chagrin, which is a considerate thing to do when you are struggling to understand how you have upset someone!

You guys are going to get me in so much trouble with her.

The most annoying thing is i have set up the wrong type of page, so i emailed the others in the groups saying i would have to start again but only to be told by said friend she could have told me that had i asked!

Anyway now set up a group so others can post bargains as well.
