AIBU to be annoyed at this woman brushing her hair in my office

I manage a small nursery and the lockers are in my office due to space constructions.
Moving them is not an option. Bags have to go in because of safeguarding and mobile phones
One woman is obsessed with combing her hair and does it several times a day
I have never liked people combing hair or pitting on makeup on public. I just find it gross.
But is it me or should I ask her tostop or while iI come across as a weirdo?
I nearly asked her yesterday but part of me thought it was petty.
It does bother me though

I think it is pretty normal for people to stand at their locker and comb hair/touch up make up. I would hardly class that as in public really, no different from doing it at the sinks of toilets.

Unless you are in a meeting or something at the time then yabu, it's just an unfortunate side effect of where the lockers are

As long as she's not spending hours doing when she should be with the children then what's the issue.

If I don't brush my hair enough it gets tangled.

I would imagine if kids are climbing over her or babies pulling or stroking her hair it would need a re brush tbh.

If she is combing her hair when she is supposed to be looking after children then no YANBU to tell her to stop it and get on with her work.

Combing her hair several times a day isn't obsessive. The locker area seems the most natural place aside from the bathroom to do these things, and I wouldn't say it was gross.

I used to have a reception job in a large law firm and a woman used to cover me while I went to lunch. I used to come back to her hair all over the desk because she brushed her hair all over it while dealing with clients. It was gross. She was generally clueless and she got sacked.

I agree with OP. It's pretty yuck. I also hate seeing women applying make up on public transport. I feel like I'm sitting in their bathroom.

We had a bloke visit who got his electric razor out and shaved his chin in the middle of the office. I thought that was weird, especially as we have shower rooms with good mirrors and lighting on every floor of the building to encourage cycling to work and gym use. (I can understand if he didn't want to do it opposite blokes using the urinal in the men's loos.)

I read it as an office that is doubling up as locker room as there isn't enough space to have the lockers anywhere else. If it started out as an office and became a locker area then I don't think you're being too unreasonable to be put out by it.

If you have a separate toilet area (and I really hope you do) perhaps (with the ok from the nursery managers/owners) you could circulate a note to all staff (or they could) saying that the lockers are there for storing personal items but any personal grooming (applying makeup/brushing hair) is to be done in the toilet areas from now on.

Insancere I hate seeing people brush their hair. My grandmother (born 1887) told me you should never be seen brushing your hair and never ever brush your hair downstairs. Maybe she had hairbrushing phobia too. I would do everything I could to encourage the person concerned to brush her hair in the cloakroom/toilet.

I actually agree with you, it makes me cringe to see people put make up on/brush hair etc in public. I don't know whether you can say anything without getting her back up though .

OP, your problem is that your workspace has been turned into a grooming area. It's her problem too.

Take it up with management.

Unless I've misread the OP, it's not a locker room, in the sense of 'a room full of sinks and toilets and lockers'. It's a bank of lockers installed in an office.

She should take her grooming tools to the toilets and do it there. It's not appropriate to brush your hair in someone's office.

as long as it's not over food who would care.
