Just mentioned to dp that we need to go to the supermarket at some point today. He says OK, but we have to pop into town to help x jump start her car. But we don't have jump leads? "We'll have to call in and buy some". I ask him if he knows how to jump start a car, " No, that's why you're coming ". But I don't know how to??? " yes you do ", no really dp I don't have a clue how to. So I ask dp why x has asked him? Because he's the only one she knows with a car????

Wibu to get him to call her back and tell her to call RAC?

Yanbu. Ask him if he is aware, if he gets the leads the wrong way round he can spike her ecu which will cost £100's of £'s to fix

You can look up how to jump start a car on the internet.

As long as X is going to pay for the jump leads then I don't see a problem. It doesn't take long to get the engine started.

Unless it's someone who has really gone out of her way to help your DP in the past, I'd have been putting my foot down at buying jump leads just so he could help (although they are handy to have).

Someone he works with, I've never heard of her before. Dp can't say no to anyone, one of the reasons I love him. But it drives me mad.

He's finding out if she has jump leads. Other suggestion I gave was to go down and phone RAC (we have cover with them)

This is really simple. He now responds saying 'sorry. We don't have any either. Why don't you ask the garage to help?' Done and dusted.

I think everyone who owns a car should have their own set of jump leads and know how to use them, it's just sensible. So if you end up buying them, then learn how to use them and keep them for yourself it's not a bad thing to do.

That said, I think it was nice of your DP to want to help although maybe he should have declined if it meant going massively out of his to do so. Can she not ask a neighbour?

If she is at home, not stuck at the side of a road, and is 500 metres from a garage them asking a colleague to drive 10 miles and buy jump leads is odd... Although its Sunday so the garage will be closed presumably?

She needs to get herself down to Argos to buy an RAC battery booster. You just connect it to your battery, press a button and off you go. I'd never heard of such an item until I got a flat battery in the Argos carpark. The lovely manager there told me about them, sold me one and then came out and helped me to do it. Then you charge it up at home and stick it in the boot ready for next time.
