AIBU?

To find listening to other people's kids screaming unbearable?

Obviously, I find hearing my own kids screaming awful and try to do something about it when they are.

Today we went to London zoo and it seemed as though everywhere we went, there was a small child screeching. AIBU? Or just unusually irritable?

Whichever you are, I'm exactly the same Grin

I find kids crying and screaming really irritating. It's the pitch and the loudness.
I found my own kids screaming and crying equally annoying unless it was a really genuine cry.

YANBU

Ha ha, I do see your point. I think it was just a particularly bad session today. It wasn't crowded, it just seemed as though half the kids in there were having tantrums about something or wailing.

I find listening to other people's kids doing pretty much anything unbearable.

God no. My youngest screamed till near 4 and I could tolerate any type of screaming kid but since he's stopped, getting the bus just after schools have finished is so stressful and actually hurts my head.

YANBU. Any kind of screeching goes straight through me.

I'm sensitive to noise. I've left restaurants before ordering if there's children screaming in there.

And I'll leave shops.

Can't bear it. Hurts my ears.

That high pitched scream that they do primarily when sat in a supermarket trolley - the one where they wait until you're right next to them and then they unleash the thousand decibel yell straight from Hell's Black Bog. That one?

I don't much like the happy squealing that some kids do in soft play either.

You're right, it's that high pitched thing that makes me crazy.

I had a screamer someone looked at him wrong and he would wail loudly for five minutes. I spent alot of time like Hmm so much so that one eyebrow is now higher than the other!

Occasionally I would mimic him to hint gently that listening to that wasn't too much fun, most of the time I would just jolly him out of it!

We are being woken every morning at 5.30 am by my neighbours kid's high pitched screaming. This morning it carried on most of the morning,we went out for breakfast in the end just to get away from it for a while !

I don't have DC so may have a low tolerance for screeching, but I was on a course today and there were two children's parties in the same centre. The ones about age 4 I coped with. For the roughly 8 year olds I was climbing the walls Grin

I was amazed by their stamina though. Two hours of intense screaming is no mean feat. I'm sure the combination of Irn Bru and a bouncy castle helped though Wink

Ds's screeching normally drowns out all other noises, so I don't notice.

There was one of these children in Costa Coffee today. Approximately every minute. Mother totally oblivious. Too busy yakking.

I actually find my dc screeching much worse than other peoples, I hear the fog horn wail and think oh FFS I gotta deal with that. With other peoples I just think not my circus not my monkeys and walk away.

Ds1 was such a screamer and the noise used to run me ragged with stress. Nowadays, when I hear other people's Dcs screaming, I can only feel relief - that it's not mine, and I don't have to be bothered doing anything about it!

I completely blank out other kids screaming and crying. It's my own that I am unable to ignore and find unbearable

I hate it too. I'm very sensitive to noise and it just goes right through me. And for the life of me I can never understand why any parent would encourage it. At least make some attempt to stop it.
