To think Apple are out of order

Just that really. I have 2 iPads one is an IPad 1 and one is and iPad 3 gave the older one to my mum to use and after the latest update it's pretty much been rendered useless.

Most apps don't work. Safari cuts off, can't watch videos on FB etc. all after this update. I realise it's an older model, but I also think that I spent a not insubstantial amount of money on it only a few years ago and think its annoying that I'm being forced into buying a new one if I want to keep using an iPad. Think I'll be replacing with an android device.

Apple are taking the piss on a number of fronts now. They've pissed of a big part of their music base by getting rid of the Ipod classics. The ipods on offer pale in comparison with that.

I've never beeen impressed with Iphone and every single person I've come across has had problems with theirs at one stage or another. I've NEVER had a problem with any of my androids. Never. Nor am I tied into only buying apps through Itunes.

Why the fuck people by Apple products now I'll never know.

and this is without the sinister act of forcing a U2 album on everyone.

If that doesn't tell you they have the ability to control what you do nothing will.

I don't think you would have been able to update ios8 on an iPad1. I think you probably mean an ipad2.

I agree with you that Apple are a bunch of crooks. I foolishly updated my iPad 2 and now it's crap. I had looked after it and it was working perfectly before but now it crashes all the time and is slow and laggy. I can't even do simple things like cut and pasting and I am always loosing long MN posts. Shock It's so irritating. I have all Apple products (phone, comp, laptop etc) so I'm loath to move away from Apple but I feel like taking them to the small claims court. Confused

I tried everything to fix my iPad 2 including doing a clean install etc but nothing has worked.

It makes you wonder if Apple has done this on purpose to try and make me buy a new model. Surely if they hadn't they would have done a press release or something. The small updates following the main ios8 update did nothing. They shouldn't have said the update was for ipad2's when it clearly isn't. If you google this you will find loads of other people have the same problem.

I'm furious Angry Angry Angry Angry?

I still haven't updated my iPhone5 and I'm definitely not updating my iPad2.

I honestly feel like they've released an update that purposely doesn't work to force me into buying another. They're not cheap and when I spend that much money on so,etching I expect it to last more than a couple of years before being rendered useless by the company who makes it.

Yes Knocks it is an iPad 2. A typo there.

The thing is though, eventually you have to update don't you? Because apps stop working if your not running the latest IOS.

Exactly. They are forcing you towards the new versions one way or another.

SmileandPiles. The thing is that before the ios8 update I had owned Apple products for years (our household owns 13 Apple products, not including iPods - thousands of pounds worth Sad ) and we had never ever had a single problem. Everything worked seamlessly and perfectly every single time. It was remarkable really. I was the original Apple fanboy Sad - I think this is why I feel so betrayed.

I knew I was over paying for what I was getting but I was willing to do so for the ease of use and the shineyness Apple used to be good for lazy computer users such as myself but now that other brands have caught up and overtaken Apple on the ease of use front I don't see why they are so popular.

Android, espec. Sony phones are so much better than iPhones.

Apple are so Ubersmug, take themselves far too seriously - they pretend to be an ethical company whilst shamelessly evading tax and subcontracting their supply chain to third world factories-from-hell

My dc had this trouble with their ipod touches - we've not bought another one since.

I knew I had a valid reason not to do the updates on anything ever

Updates were screwing things up a long time before ios8 came along. I've lost track of the number of people who's asked my advice on how fix things (ex too as he was a computer programmer and shit hot with things like this).

Even when I've gone to the Genius Bar with them, they've not been able to fix it either without the risk of loosing everything on the device.

I've been with 1 person twice with the same phone, yet she still hasn't learnt.

I'm doing a course at college and some of the people I do certain subects with are doing a computer programming course, NOT one of them will touch Apple products and those that did have soon realised they are getting ripped off, and gone back to android.

I know the updates were pissing people off before ios8 but it's the first time I've got burnt.

My DS is a computer scientist and his contempt for all things Apple is almost amusing. Most DC are embarrassed about their parents clothes or taste in music but my DS is horrified at our Apple'yness. Grin

Totally agree, we just have ipods but they now can't be updated as they are too old and won't run the new operating iOs whatever and I couldn't even put the kindle app on one the other day for my little girl as we weren't running the latest one :(, it's only 1.5 years old and we saved up for it I can't afford to buy another one :(...

I have just bought a new iPad Mini, but the first retina one (now being called the 2) because I didn't think the difference between that and the 3 justified the price difference, it's still running 7 and I'm not updating it until I am forced to.

I'm thinking about getting the iPhone6, but not sure how it will work if that's on 8 and the mini is on 7 - I assume it will be OK?

If you want a tablet, get a Kindle Fire

Phones? Any android.

Ipods - don't bother. They got rid of the classic which was the best one you could get in that market, now there's nothing that even comes close in this country.

Apple are shooting themselves in the foot by pissing off so many of their customers. Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave.

I have a Galaxy S5. Wouldn't go back to iphone. But they did have my custom for the ipads. I would have bought new as and when I needed to. Well no anymore. Will look at kindle fire and samsung now.

never, ever, ever update unless a device has stopped working.

Agreed.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Haven't met anyone who rates the fire at all. Terrible things. Crash constantly. Try open the web, crash. Finally it stays open, scroll down a page, try to post, change page. Crash. I have a £30 tablet that out performs the fire. Everyone I talk to wishes they hadn't bothered with the fire.

Report
Smilesandpiles · 07/11/2014 20:39

I've never had a problem with the Fire and DS uses his every day.

Remember when Carphone Warehouse were selling those tablets for £50 each? Some bizzare make that no one has ever heard off?

THEY are better than the Ipads.
