To wish the BBC would make more family series for Sunday late afternoon TV?

Maybe it's me getting older but I was just thinking about the serials that used to be on the BBC around now on a Sunday. Narnia, Five Children and It, The Borrowers etc.

Is it wrong to wish for more series like that to enjoy with the DC so I don't have to endure quite so much CBeebies

Totally agree. I absolutely loved watching Narnia and the borrowers on lazy weekends when I was a child.

Put some films on - Carrie's War, Railway Children, Secret Garden etc are all made for Sunday afternoons IMO :)

But I do agree with you, with so many channels available now companies do seem a bit less bothered about producing quality tv sometimes.

Yanbu, I remember when my oldest was young there were lots on Sunday nights, I'm sure it was the Phoenix carpet or something one year!

Dr Who really isn't great family TV! I don't get it - it is both lame and scary. Both worthy and vaguely inappropriate.

You need a good weepy for Sunday nights. Like Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth.

ds likes to watch Have You Been Framed Cute Pets or something like that

at times if feels as though the BBC have given up on making good dramas and family entertainment

Yanbu. I have lovely memories of watching Narnia, five children and it etc on a sunday afternoon. My mum used to pick me up from the stables, id go home have a bath and eat my tea watching them.

Well I'd like to defend Dr Who. Our family make a date to watch it with nice nibbles. My dd9 has liked it since around 5 and My ds7 is currently totally obsessed with it.

Anyway, yes I wish there was more family drama. We recently all enjoyed Our Zoo, but it was on a bit late on a school night.

My dd loved Merlin and is currently really looking forward to Alantis starting again.

We have the old Narnia series on DVD but the DC want to watch it all in one go instead of one per week!

Also have Maid Marian and her Merry Men and (for when they're a bit older) Moondial

I frequently feel the same way.

Currently have the new David Attenburgh on series link to snuggle down and watch with the dcs. Have a few more on DVD. We love Maid Marian too. But there is definitely a difference between working your way through a DVD boxset and watching something that is on TV.

It's the knowledge you have to wait a week rather than just clicking onto the next episode. The DC are getting too used to having instant gratification and that is our fault really for having Netflix etc

I am old . But the tea time series on Sundays were pure gold family time in the early seventies .
Lots of Dickens and Henry James stuff ......then later The Forsyte Saga .
Got me reading the books and a lifelong love of literature .

Tea was a picnic table in front of the fire with salmon sandwiches and home made cake . Tea pot on the hearth and whole family watching the tv.

Yes crumple, I agree. We series link a lot but we watch it within a couple of days so then we still have to wait for the next one.

I totally agree. I loved their recent 'Our Zoo' and thought that that should have been a Sunday teatime programme rather than 9pm on a Wednesday!

Ok I am old as well but it was just like that . TEa in front of the fire with the Tv on Ann of Green Gables, the secret garden ..Often after ski Sunday was on BBC 2 ( or maybe that came on a few years later ) ..... It was essential watching .

Completely agree. My DS is 4 nearly 5 and just at the age where we could start watching something like the Borrowers with him as a weekly Sunday evening thing. We end up with CBeebies instead because there is nothing suitable on any of the live channels.

I agree. I just want something that we all will enjoy. I loved The Borrowers! Looking forward to Christmas when I'm sure there'll be a David Walliams adaptation, but need more than that for the rest of the year, or at least winter!

I was also about to say Worzel Gummidge. I also loved Saturday early evening viewing of knight rider and the A team. It's not the same!
Although DS1 is just watching Strictly on Sky plus.

Yesssss! When I was little we had Phoenix carpet and the magicians apprentice and they were soooo good!! Looked forward to it every week!
