AIBU?

to have thought you wear a suspender belt UNDER your knickers?

I think I've been labouring under a misapprehension here. I've worn stockings once or twice, and have always worn the belt under my knickers.

However, somebody at work was saying she wears them occasionally but found them really awkward to go to the loo in. I couldn't understand why, until I realised she has the belt and straps over her pants, so she has to unclip, or they won't go over the top of her stockings.

So I mentioned that if you put them on first, and your knickers over the top there was no problem. She looked at me as if I were mad, and said that that was definitely the wrong way around to wear them. Everybody else agreed with her.

So AIBU to have thought that (I was convinced I was right), and if I wear them again, WIBU to do it the 'wrong' way, since I can actually go to the loo without severe undergarment rearrangement?

Yes, under your knickers. Should you wish to drop your pants, for whatever reason, they will still be in place.

Always under pants for me.

I put the belt over my knickers, but only because most of mine have frilly skirt things on them which would have to be tucked into my knickers if I put it on first.

Even without the frills I would probably put the belt over the pants.

Under here too.

Well, when you see them advertised or on mannequins, the suspender belt is on top, as your colleague has been wearing them. But perhaps that's because you can't see them properly the other way round?

Anyway, perfectly reasonable to carry on as you are. It's a bit silly to be removing the whole lot every time you go to the loo.

Definitely over!

Definitely under, so you easily remove your knickers for the loo or other purposes.

Having never worn suspenders I did indeed think knickers where under - because of mannequins and catalogues and what not.

However I read somewhere (possibly on here!) that they suspenders should be under to enable knickers removable, was like a light bulb moment, however if I'd not read it and had worn suspenders I'd have probably worn them over then discovered the removable issue and an inconvenient time.

Can't account for everyone's inability to accept the knicker removable as reason enough to accept they had it wrong.

I used to always wear stockings and suspenders and it's definitely under your knickers. My Mum told me and she wore them too in the 50's and 60's!

Under.

Over is just too impractical.

I have worn them both ways. Going to the loo is much easier under i agree, but i also find it a bit more restrictive on movement. I think over is not only less restrictive and more comfy but i also think it gives a better look. Not that anybody ever gets to see them if ever i do wear them anyway ! Lol. To be honest it is very rare that i ever wear them, i much prefer hold ups, but give me a nice pair of warm and comfy tights everytime

Your friend has looked at too many page 3 type pics!

Of course under. although this is from what I remember from when I was worth seeing in stockings

Perhaps she's wearing a girdle?

Under of course so you can still have them on taking knickers off to dtds. Grin

Of course they go under - surely the whole point is that they stay on when the knickers are off?

Woaahhh. I always wear them over, but can see how under could be much more functional.

For the once every three years I wear them, anyway.

I thought over but only because they are over on mannequins and photos, I actually don't wear stockings often because the are awkward and it had never occurred to me to put them under my knickers.

Had it not been for my ex sil needing someone to help her at the wedding every time she needed the loo (due to her suspenders belt being over her knickers) and my mum pointing out the mistake I wouldn't have known they were meant to go under.
I've never worn then and only seen them on mannequins/ pictures where they are over.

Over.

For the loo just unclip or roll the belt down (obv leave straps clipped to stockings) or if your straps are long enough you can get your knickers down enough to sit and wee.

For sex, no knickers, crotchless knickers or they get pushed to one side.

Or get those knickers that have straps on them!

I wear suspenders over my knickers. Tmi alert, but to go for a wee it pull them to one side, for sex purposes the same, or I sometimes wear the tie up at the side ones which can be untied quickly - never really realised that people did otherwise - dp has never commented (at least, not about their incorrect usage ;) )

Over the underwear. Under would not look good at all imo. To pee you simply unclip the belt or roll it down, as someone else said above.

For sex... no underwear.

You are right. I posted about it recently on a thread about things that you see in adverts that really annoy you. Models always wear them the wrong way round.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this obsession.
