AIBU?

to think beards and moustaches on men are generally very unattractive and probably unhygenic too?

I really can't stand beards and moustaches on guys, especially the bushy kind, especially when not a very nice colour and especially when on men with a lesser than average amount of hair on the top of their head.... Yuck!

They seem increasingly popular, especially with 20-30 somethings, though. Unfathomable to me. Am I alone in thinking this way? Too old? Too prudish? A bit of designer stubble is the most I can tolerate, but hate how spiky it feels on DH.

I don't know about unhygienic, but I don't think they're attractive at all.

I do like a nice short beard on a man. Not too keen on a big shaggy beard though.

I think they look grim on almost every man but they're very trendy right now. Hopefully it'll pass soon.

YABU, I love when DH has a beard, makes him look all manly. Men with beards are hotter. Fact.

I bloody love my DH's beard. He grew it for a dare along with some work colleagues and has kept it ever since. It's well sexy Grin

Do you think head hair is unhygienic too OP?

I think they're seedy and positively pervy on some men

I don't find facial hair on men attractive in any way.

Beards can look absolutely lovely. My dp has one and he manages it to keep it clean and soft. If I were a man I'd definitely have one, it's too much work to go shaving every day.

I don't think you're unreasonable - I hate beards. My DS has one - it is clean but even do he knows he can freak me out by licking it a la Mr Twit!

My earliest memory is screaming when I saw my dad had grown a moustache (he didn't live with us) and I had a complete fear of a Father Christmas Grin

DPs dad has a beard - it's awful.

Not sure about unhygienic but I do wonder if food skin etc gets trapped in them.

I'm not fond of just moustaches unless it's November, but beards are fine. I'd probably prefer DH to shave his off if I'm honest because I think he'd look younger, but it certainly doesn't affect whether he looks attractive or not. He hasn't got loads of hair on top either but it's his face... his choice!

And stubble is spikier than a full beard. After a certain length they feel soft again.

Beards make a man look more distinguished.

If a young man wears a beard, it makes him look more mature.

WTF is Shane from Boyzone thinking??

I love my DH's beard - it isn't bushy though, it is kept pretty short. My DB likes a pretty long beard though and I think he looks like a twat! I also think most hipster beards look a bit idiotic ...
I don't think DH's is unhygienic as he washes it with shower gel every morning in the shower and it is regularly clipped, and the edges trimmed. I much prefer that he spends an extra few minutes in bed cuddling me than shaving his face every morning!

On some men, facial hair is very attractive.
Hygiene-wise, I don't see how it's much different from having head-hair! When DH had a splendid colonial-style moustache, he kept it very clean. I kind of miss it.

I don't like moustaches and would have agreed with you on the beard thing until I hit 40 - now I love them.

I'm currently refusing to kiss my husband whilst he has a beard. I hate it. I like a bit of a stubble on a man but when it progresses to a beard it looks scruffy and dirty - I just hate it!!

My dh's moustache and goatee are great, they hide his weak and slightly regressive chin. It also stops him looking like my son!

Nancy I thought you were going to say "Now I've grown one" Grin

My DH has had a beard since about 2002. I love it because it's part of him. And also he has a massive chin a la Bruce Forsyth and would look ridiculous without it

I do worry what will happen when beards go out of fashion cos he certainly won't be shaving his.

PS Beards only unhygienic if beard-wearer doesn't wash sufficiently.

Surprised no-one has commented on the plus side of beards when DTD ..

I used to hate beards but DH grew one when on holiday and he looked great so I have liked them since then. DH still has his beard.

I believe Shane is going for The redneck serial killer look there. I saw him on tv the other night, what is he thinking!

I hate beards, I don't mind a bit of designer stubble. Moustaches without beards are wrong on every level!

I love a nice beard on a man! DH is really sad that he can't have his at work, he said when he retires he is growing one right away.

I do love DH's beard. He shampoos, conditions and combs so it's always nice and soft. Not too long either.

Only problem is cream cakes. They get everywhere
