Lols, YANBU! It defo looks knobbish, and suggests working mums are only part-time mums.

Also, my husband is in the Army, I often see 'friends' on facebook write as their job description - 'Army Wife.'
I mean, REALLY? Shock

I wouldn't put it myself, but I don't have a problem with it. What should they put instead? Unemployed?

Tbh, think you're being a tad harsh. Whilst I find the saying a bit twee, I also think SAHMs get shit on pretty badly for a role that's not recognized as important (you only have to look at some of the threads with the uneven financial arrangements).

It almost feels like an apologetic justification of what you do for a living when actually it's faaar fucking harder than most jobs. I go to work for a rest, seriously, I do Grin

So YABU and YANBU - my arse hurts from the chaffing wood in this fence sitting Grin

You don't need a job to be defined as a person. It's no one's business and you don't generally need to put anything.

I think mine says 'slummy mummy' it's firmly tongue in cheek so I hope it doesn't make people cringe.

I don't much mind "full time mummy" but don't have it myself. What I really REALLY hate with a passion is "school of hard knocks" under education. just AAAAARGGGGGGGH! Angry

Well no one has to put anything, do they?

I used to refer to myself as 'harassed mother of twins' - which was quite true. Grin

I agree with Combine, I personally found being a 'Full-time mummy' harder than anything. I'm about to be one again, but only plan to do it for a year or I'll go bats!

To be fair, I've never been a 'full-time working mummy'. I'm sure that's pretty tough. But I've been a LP, a WAHM and a WOHM (part-time). And a part-time student.

It cringes every bone in my body

Really. Why define yourself as a mummy

Confused

Crikeyblimey · 01/09/2014 21:01

It really irks me too.

I work outside the home but I don't stop being a mum when at work. Surely every mum is a full time mum? They might not provide hands on care for their children full time - but they are still mum.

canweseethebunnies · 01/09/2014 21:03

I don't think it's really supposed to be a dig at working mums though, is it? It's just saying 'this is what I'm doing with myself at the moment'. I think both sides of the can be a bit over sensitive!

And what about "full time Yummy Mummy"

I have some friends with that as their job

Absolute cringe :(

Report
mrssmith79 · 01/09/2014 21:03

It's on par with 'proudmummy' middle names. Gah!

Report
CombineBananaFister · 01/09/2014 21:06

I don't think it suggests working mums are part-time mums. I think there's a cultural expectancy in the uk to say what you do for a living occupation-wise and if you don't have a paid job you have to explain why - which is stupid.

The saying might sound a bit Hmm but think it stems from having to justify why you are not in paid employment sometimes- which is bullshit, as why should it matter?

Personally, on my maternity leave I said 'raising the next generation of genuis' which was also twattish but my contribution was just AS important as the next person in employment. I do work btw, just feel a bit defensive of SAHMs.

Agree with combine. As a Sahm you are an easy target, bottom of the heap. What do you think they should self define as? Hate seeing women sneering at other women like this

Report
canweseethebunnies · 01/09/2014 21:10

But Gary, why define yourself as a stockbroker, or a lawyer or anything?

Report
originalusernamefail · 01/09/2014 21:12

Def cringe, also Jane 'princess'mummy' Bloggs. I personally don't put anything. I am many things, not defined any one thing. I expect my FB friends to appreciate that.
