Oh no! Really? I didn't know this. So very sad. Is he not still very young. Early 60's?

That is very sad to read....what a shock (although I find I have more and more of these shocks the older I get Hmm)

A comedy talent who will be fondly remembered I am sure. Thoughts with his family and friends

Just had a quick scan of news sites and apparently it looks like suicide, according to some sort of official statement he has been suffering from severe depression. How devastating for his family.

So sad, he was one of a kind. It's hard to believe that someone who made a career out of making other people laugh could be sad enough to take his own life.

I will never watch Aladdin in quite the same way again :(

"I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed, life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears."But doctor" He says, "I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."

Sad

I'm in shock. I loved this man and he was in all my favorite movies growing up.

Depression is a dark dark disease, what a sad loss, I'm genuinely gutted.
His wife said she hopes everyone remembers him for the joy he brought to their lives, and not the way he died. I think people will. As Dr. Seuss said, "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened"

I've never felt sadness before at the death of a celebrity. But as bizarre as it undoubtedly sounds, he doesn't seem like a celebrity. There are just so few people with that magical something about them and he truly emanated it from every pore, along with his warmth, humour and joy. He was a part of so many childhoods, brought tears of laughter to so many eyes and brought many a character to life. Such a sad, brutal loss.

Genuinely saddened to hear this. The Dcs grew up loving the film Aladdin and his voice of the Genie was an absolute masterpiece. Really sad news.

I am really sad and shocked to hear this. He was a great actor, I grew up watching so many of his films. Dd and I just watched Jumanji the other day, really terrible news.
