I arrived at my sons leavers assembly. On time. No chairs available so I thought ok so we stand... fine. The teachers then brought out a lot more chairs and put them in front of the existing front row. So I could now have a seat.
Cue all the people who were now in the second row diving forward. I managed to get two chairs before they were all taken completely by the moving second row and a mother looked at me and shouted 'but I got here early so I could film it!!!' and tried to pinch my chairs. So I told her tough shit and it was my chair. Except I didn't say tough shit. I was slightly more eloquent.
Was I unreasonable? If it were me I wouldn't have dreamt of moving forward when the standees had been given seats.

I think I'd have taken one of the second row seats as they did get there early to get a front seat. (I say that as someone who never gets there early enough for a front seat.)

actually this is like when a new till opens and the assistant calls over someone from the rear of the neighbouring queue instead of the person who is actually next in line. That really annoys me, but I don't get trolley rage!

Not sure. Think its school fault why didn't they put chairs at back or no room. Can see it from front row point of view. They came early to get a good spot. You arrive just before and get the best spot. (Sits on fence)

I must say I have occasionally suffered from chair rage so would have been furious that an extra row of chairs were put out. How very very very dare they.

School were being unreasonable really, for not anticipating this.

If they weren't sure about needing an extra row they should have put the original chairs out further forward, with space for the extra row at the back.

Other parent needs to complain to the school if she feels she must, as once the extra chairs go out than they were bound to be a free for all to sit on them.

I can understand why they people who were there early felt aggrieved.

Our prize giving was yesterday. I was half an hour early, still not quite the first parent there, did get a front row seat but still couldn't hear most of what was said.

The head teacher refuses to use the microphone, despite being a school with a larger than average number of deaf and hearing impaired pupils and despite an announcement saying that there were a number of hearing impaired pupils and parents in the hall on that occasion (I am one of those parents and need to sit as close to the action as possible so I stand a chance of hearing and understanding even half of what is being said).

Although, to be fair, the other reason we couldn't hear anything is because one of the parents who arrived later allowed her three year old to run riot up and down the almost empty back row, pushing chairs as though they were cars and making driving noises and shrieking with either delight at her game or anger at any attempt to have her sit down.

It wasn't your fault...you took the seats the school laid out for you, even if they left it late and did it all wrong. But I can see the other woman's point as well....I would probably have done the same as her and dived forward for a seat. I always look out for the best seats. The school made a hash of it.

Parents loose the plot as these type of events, I've seen this type of behaviour many times over the years and it never ceases to amaze me how rude and unreasonable adults can be.

Hmm, I can see both of sides of this, in fact we were talking about 'front row' parents only today.

At my dcs school, there are a set of parent who manage to be on the front row for everything. Doesn't matter what time I get there, they're either there first, or they know someone in front of me and manage to edge themselves up the queue so they end up with the best seats.

So in that case, I would have taken great pleasure in plonking my fat arse on the chairs in front of them, without a second thought.

I'm always late, sometimes deliberately so I get to stand. Being only short, standing is better than sitting in tbe middle.

I would have felt very rude to take a seat in front of those who had gotten there early to be in the front row, I would have offered it to the person behind before sitting and taken the vacated second row seat.

Ridiculous behaviour from adults - YWNBU - its the school's fault for not calculating number correctly. I agree its tough shit for those who always get there 30 mins early for the front.
