AIBU?

to make my mum watch The Big Bang Theory

  • after she dismissed it as "slapstick" when I mentioned I'd been catching up on the latest series?

I'm sure that not everyone likes it, but describing it as slapstick is clearly wrong.

Mum claims that she's seen a few episodes, but I think she must have mixed it up with another show.

WIBU to make her watch a few episodes the next time she's over to get this silly slapstick misunderstanding cleared up?

not wrong at all, at least show her 5 mins and ask if this is really the show she means.

she might think it is silly, but not the same as slapstick.

Yanbu, DH and I watched a few episodes a long time ago and didn't really like it. Then we decided to watch a season to see what the big deal was about and we were hooked!

What an insult! Have you considered going no-contact? Wink

Does she understand what slapstick really is? Or maybe the bits she saw just happened to be a more physical bit of comedy? Like in the ball pool shouting bazinga.

I used to call it The Big Shite Theory. That was when I used to catch the odd half episode on e4. I then decided to just try series one. Started at the start and fell in love.

im an addict.

Make her start at the start though!!

NUR at all! everyone should watch BBT

I have a friend couple who "dont find it funny Confused " which always makes me giggle inwardly as i know it's because most of the jokes and references dont even register as a joke having been made with them Grin but also a bit Sad

TBBT is IMO the funniest sitcom on TV at the moment ( apart from Modern Family which is brilliant too). I think you have to watch a few episodes and get a feel for the characters before you get into it. So. Def. YRNBU! :)

There is no slapstick in it, it is so far from slapstick it can't even see slapstick in the distance!

It is clever humour that you have to clever to understand.

It is the best but I was a tad disappointed with Leonard & Penny's engagement last episode. After all these years (and proposals) they deserved better.

I'm pretty sure - or was, at least - that mum understands that slapstick is very physical humour.

I'll bring out the season 1 box set at the first opportunity Grin

And any consideration about going no-contact is shelved until mum's had an opportunity to admit she was wrong and it's light years away from slapstick Wink

YANBU. Big Bang Theory is amazing. I'm not up to date with the latest season though, so I'm now going to have to work very hard to forget I read that spoiler!

Oh.

I hadn't watched this series yet either... Sad

Still, it was going to happen eventually.

Just please reassure me that Sheldon and Amy haven't DtD yet?

I'm a fan.

However, they need to leave Doctor Who alone, because both references that I've seen have been incorrect.

They showed the Pilot episode last week and a Penny had the top on that she had on in this weeks show.

They need to be aware that most of us are recording and watching old episodes.

There's been a couple of mistakes and the've got to realise they are not involved with "Friends", or "How I met your Mother", their watchers are not, not going to notice.

The continuity is excellent.

I hope it remains the quality show it is and they end if it doesn't.

She could come and stay with us - dh adores it and watches loads of it on E4. Drives me absolutely crazy as I can't stand it!

I hate that fucking show. It's stupid as all fuck. If someone tried to make me watch it, I'd leave.

So Penny still owns a top she owned a few years ago? I don't understand what the issue is?

Gruntfuttock · 11/07/2014 22:47

I LOVE TBBT, but my DH and DD refuse to watch it. Sad

Report
Birdsgottafly · 11/07/2014 23:04

It was three years ago and it looks like new. Penny doesn't hoard clothes.

It's points like that, that fans are going to pick up on.

The Pilot is on just at 12 am on E4.
