AIBU?

Personalisation - temporary?

So, we ordered a mug from a well known store and asked for personalisation (it was an option) - added the maximum 25 letters and then ordered. Photos show said mug from various angles including one with a plain white gift tag.
You can guess the rest.
Order email says personalisation 2.95 and despatch email today says white gift tag 2.95.
Store have confirmed that personalisation is a blardy tag. That we could have written and stuck on it.
AIBU to think this is a cheek and not actually very personal?

Yes - unless you have misread the blurb I would ask for your money back.

oh dear, that's a bit naff OP! Sad
I have never bought something personalised that did not have examples of fonts/message actually shown on the item in the photos though, so that'll be their defence (ie no false advertising, should have been clear what they meant). Its not even like it came nicely giftwrapped with a posh tag attached though? so it's a bit of a con and a rip off IMO.

This is the item - apologies to Disney if I've misunderstood but customer services seem to be saying it's a removable tag. I will post again if I'm wrong when they reply again.

Hmm well that clearly says personalisation available ON some items, so yes I do think that is very misleading!

and £3 for a poxy white tag with a name/message on is a rip off in itself even if clearly advertised as such!

Yes, might make a formal complaint. Other mugs have it written on them, so slightly stunned if they are right and why would anyone pay for a crappy bit of card?

It's a bit like adding a gift tag to a bunch of flowers. I wouldn't say that that was personalising the flowers though.

That is a bit cheeky! You can see the tag on the pictures though.

Nerf · 07/07/2014 16:36

You can, but it doesn't make it clear that that's it. It wouldn't occur to me that personalisation was a temporary tag.

Yeah, you're right, it's very misleading. That just looks like an extra gift tag. I can't see anywhere where it says that's the personalisation so it seems quite wrong really.

And this is the page they linked me to in their answer telling me it would be a gift tag.

If it's a permanent gift tag I will apologise.

But their own list states that personalisation is either "embroidery, transfer, engraving or sublimation" depending on the product!! Nothing on there about some products just having a gift tag added (unless I've missed it).

they really are out of order here! so what if the product picture had a tag shown in one of the images, it was not made clear there or on the personalisation page WHAT your money was paying for. It's outrageous!

Thank you - that is exactly what I think, but you have said it better. Will see what they say to my latest email.

Just drafted a letter , printed everything off and am posting it today. Mug has arrived and tag is horrid - white felt, and in side of box.

Is it a blank white tag or has it writing on it?

To be fair though the pictures do make it quite clear IMO that the tag is extra (not on the first) and nowhere else is any sort of personalization shown.

So naff yes, waste of money yes, but not really misleading.

Sorry, but I think from that first link I would have realised the personalisation was on a separate tag -in the picture it's not blank, it says 'Isabelle'. I agree that it's expensive and not worth it for me, but others might like it.

May not be logical about this due to my recent hatred of Disney over frozen elsa teddy, 2 months and still waiting for stock in store.

Yanbu £3 for a gift tag is a rip off.

Really? Two months is a very long time!
Thanks for other responses - it would never occur to me that a removable, possibly not very long lasting gift tag was ' personalisation' - if it said removable gift tag optional, I might have twigged.

YANBU.

I think all the extra cautions over the 'personalisation' - i.e. 'personalised items take 7 days extra and cannot be returned' would have convinced me it was more than a gift tag.

I would no way have taken the gift tag to be the total extent of the personalisation - that isn't personalisation of the product, it's a personal gift tag.

Total con. Hope you are wrong though and you get a fab mug with 'nerfkid' on the handle or something.

They pose a question on their website 'What is Personalisation'? and then gives a description which outlines four different outlines/options. Not one of them is a label attached to the product.

Totally out of order.
