AIBU?

To despair at dog owners

Aaaaaaaaaaarg. Grrrrrr. Angry

I was sitting with dh and dc in the park sharing a pizza between us which we had got from a nearby restaurant. Suddenly dh leaps up and grabs a dog that was about to jump on us whilst we were sat on the ground eating our food. He had to hold on to the dog until it's owner a stupid fuckwitt cunt woman came (about a minute later). The woman made no serious attempt to call her blood pet (massive in size, some sort of mutt). She just meekly called whispered "emmieeeeee, eeeeeeemmiee" but unsurprisingly stupid dog didn't listen to fuckwitt woman at all.

She then proceeded to tell us the classic line "he's harmless" to which I responded "well I still don't want him jumping on me, the dc or our food.

She had the bloody cheek to answer back "the park is for everyone and that we should get used to dogs". I said "sure, i'lm used to dogs but still don't want one humping me, the baby or slobbering my food".

She went on to say some more tosh and I warned her that I would call the police as it was clear that she couldn't control her bloody dog.

She went off in a huff but not without lecturing me that I should not be rude to her in front of the dc.

Seriously, how can some dog owners be sooooooo blooooody stupid? I don't get it. I love dogs, hope to have our own dog one day but I will make damn sure to train the dog and not allow it to bother other people.

Oh, and she had the cheek to say that we should eat at a table if we didn't want dogs to jump on us and our food. She wasn't even aggressive or rude just really, really stupid. Confused.

Some people are just stupid, over entitled fuckwits

And some of them happen to own dogs

You may want to change your title to This dog owner as the sweeping generalisation is a little unfair on those of us who are responsible dog owners.

YANBU regarding this incident.

This. The fact that she was a dog owner is irrelevant. Some of them happen to own dogs; it doesn't make 'dog owners' some sort of sub species.

Did they scoop it's poop?

That dog owner was a knob yes.. but your title needs changing.

She seems like a cunt but you've made quite a generalisation about dog owners there Hmm. And it probably isn't a very wise idea to eat hot food in a park where animals are allowed to roam freely.

what was on your pizza?

I find keeping my dogs on a lead in public places stops them jumping up, on or over people. And I know where they've pooped so I can scoop.

You are entitled to eat your pizza with your family where ever you want.

I don't appreciate being lumped in with the inconsiderate dog owner you had the misfortune to bump into today. Angry

Thanks for that. If you do get a dog, will you be despairing over yourself?

I had a similar incident (ish) where, by virtue of being in a country park, I was somehow inviting a out of control dog to lick all over my baby's face. She was sitting on a blanket by me, just playing with her feet.
When I asked if the owner to keep their dog under control I got the same bollocks "he wouldn't hurt her". Aside from the fact that most of the dog owners who have mauled children probably said the same, but I don't want some arse-licking hound slobbering over one of my children's faces.
YANBU.

I adore dogs but would have felt exactly the same and told her just like you did.

Good Heavens I would be mortified if my dog did that, would probably be offering you the price of your pizza plus extra. Having any dog, big or small, is a huge responsibility and they must be trained.
I purposely never walk in parks but in fairly wild commons where people don't picnic unless they love sitting on a gorse bush but even so I don't let my dog bother people,(or other dogs) unlikely as they don't have long bushy tails like squirrels. Grin

If I had a pound for every twat who has told me, oh but he's harmless, I'd be rich.

Entitled gits just don't get that not everyone loves their stupid dogs.

Drives me mad.

Sure, it's not dog owners, but sometimes, it feels like it's most of them!!!

Nope - YABU
I have a dog, I am in my local parks twice a day, wind, rain, snow and shine.

Soon as the good weather happens people bring their children and food and assume they can just plonk themselves anywhere and do what they like.

Most dog owners like myself are happy to share the park, but parents have to realise they are entering a dog zone and take care.

If you don't like dogs goin near your child don't give them food and sit them on the ground.

I hope you do get a dog, experience the joy and love they have to offer, spend years training then and then realise, like I have, that no amount of training will stop your otherwise well behaved beastie from launching themselves (in a friendly way) towards anyone sitting at his level on the ground with food.

(The women you met does sound like a bitch tho)

I totally agree with you & I would despair at this particular dog owner. However, please do not despair over dog owners in general, as the majority of us would not allow our dogs to behave in this manner. Unfortunately it is the minority that let all of the responsible dog owners down.

The irresponsible dog owners you notice because they can't control their dogs. All the many responsible ones fade into the background and you don't notice them.

The above link is what the dog that ran up to us looked like, whilst the owner simpered ''he's harmless''
