Not just because they aren't inclusive or diverse, but also because of the local impact.

My nearest school is a faith school. Every day when I drive to work, I see dozens of cars parked along the street of the school with parents dropping off children. They park everywhere on a very narrow street including double yellow lines and the zig zag lines outside the school. It seems like nobody walks to this school, as it quite simply does not serve the local community.

Local people have no chance of sending their children to this school unless they are off the faith, and they have very strict criteria for this. Meanwhile locals also have a lot of congestion to put up with. There is obviously also a big environmental impact.

Aibu to think that state schools should be inclusive, and not exclusive based on faith grounds, as all tax payers are contributing towards their running costs?

Yabvu and ridiculous. People have a right to a faith and how to educate their children. People 'indoctrinating' children with a belief of God is equal to people 'indoctrinating' their children with the belief that there is nothing. Find something else to judge.

Fate, I drive past the other non-religious schools in the area too and I don't see any parents parking outside. This is London and the community schools have tiny catchment areas meaning people walk as it would be madness not to. Religious schools clearly take children from over a wide area.

It's because all of us Catholics (Christians) spend so much time on our knees praying that we can't walk very far hence us driving and clogging up the roads but rest assured we do seek forgiveness

Some faith schools don't have a catchment, their admissions are purely based on attendance at church etc so in many cases the families live a long long way from school.
The school should sort out its parking.

I don't think faith has any impact on parking. Although to be fair I will be driving to DD's school in September as we chose a faith school 10 miles from us but they have a lovely big car park / drop off area and it's a small school on the outskirts of a village so the traffic shouldn't disrupt the residents too much.

The faith school my child attends certainly does serve the local community, most of the children live close enough to walk and I haven't seen any selfish parking. BTW Catholics pay taxes too

My dc go to a fantastic CofE primary. It does serve the local community, many of the children there aren't Christian. They learn about, and celebrate in some form, many religions (eg they make Eid cards).

The nearest CofE secondary school ( in fact the only one that I know of anywhere near here) also serve its local community, none of the current year 6 children got a place for September as there were other more local children who got the spaces. Religion is lower down the admission criteria than distance from the school.

Mind you, I'm 5 mins walk from 2 primary schools, ours and a non faith one. There is also another non faith school within our catchment area. (I've read on mn that catchment doesn't exist, but everyone including the council IIRC mentions it).

Maybe where I live is unusual?

No less I know that by having faith as part of the admission criteria, in whatever way, the school is not serving the local community. Unless you can tell me that most faith schools do not select by faith?

My dd go to Catholic school and 50% of the school are non catholics. The majority of children live within walking distance from the school but this really has no bearing on how many walk to and from school everyday. The majority of parents go to work straight from drop off so unless they work within walking distance of the school would still have to drive.
We don't have an issue with parking particularly as we are a small school . However the non religious school a few streets away has a serious problem with parking due to its location and the amount of children that attend. So based on OP argument all non religious school should be banned as they are clearly not serving the local community. As so many people are driving and clogging up the roads for local people.
