AIBU?

To wonder what's with all the reporting lately?

Neighbours kids call round to fill up on your junk cupboard? Report them to SS. They must be starving their kids.

New partner, loads of handbags? - Report them for benefit fraud. Something must be up.

Tenants having a bad day, dog poo left in the garden? Report them to environmental health and try and evict them.

Whatever happened to talking to your neighbours? Offering a helping hand? AIBU is just full of "friends" reporting each other for the most spurious reasons atm. Is this what that big society thing was meant to be about?

I agree.

I remember posters advising someone to call 101 because someone shouted boo out of their van whilst driving past which made their child jump/scared.

In fact call 101 seems to be the go to response for a lot of threads recently.

I refer you to my recent thread "AIBU to report everyone for everything"

It's probably my fault Grin

Yanbu, the culprits who waste the 101 service's time could be found on here.

HmmHang on so when DS and his mates came round to watch the football and emptied my snack cupboard in the space of an hour I should have called SS?
I am a bad person...
There has been a lot of reporting going on lately, 'tis true.

Yes, you report everyone for everything. I've just reported myself. Dd2 has gone to her friends for dinner. Obviously this is because she is not getting fed at home.

If you pass someone in the street and they smile St you, you report them to 101 for stalking you. If they don't smile at you, you report them to the DWP for benefit fraud. They are obviously too ashamed to look you in you the eye because they are a benefits cheat.

Reporting you for criticising my reporting. Angry I like reporting, it makes me feel like the sanctimonious stuck-up busybody that I am.

I liked the suggestion that someone should call 101 to report teenagers playing on the swings at a playground. SMH...

What are you talking about? I happen to have the financial information of people that are scamming the system. They took their tax papers to work and waved them around for all to see.

I was wondering about the new 101 mania some MNers people seem to be suffering from. Some people seem to think it's a chatline Hmm

You mean it's not the number I should call for a long gossip with a hunky policeman? Dammit.

I was wondering about the 101 number. We don't have that here in Ireland. It's offered up as a solution to virtually everything on here.

Before that it was NHS direct mania (which sadly didn't entail a long gossip with George Clooney Sad).

But you're right OP snitching seems to have become reflexive around here.

We don't have one here in the US either. All complaints go to the emergency lines, as non-emergency lines aren't easy to find even on the internet. But it seems to be the whine line that you call just to complain about something trivial. I do feel bad for the operators.
