to question why people want the office icey cold on only slightly warm days

Its not even hot outside, 15 degrees but its still hotter in the sun than in the office.

Have to sit with a jumper on and coat on my legs on a perfectly nice day. Can't be good for the body all this ariticial stale cold air then going outside to warm up.

Does anyone else have these problems?

The same office they put at boiling hot in the winter and that also disagrees with my body

That is one of the problems with an office, everyone has different body temperatures and it is hard to get an agreement that suits everyone. I once worked with someone who insisted on throwing back the blinds as soon as there was a hint of sun, so that we could all 'make the most of the sunny weather' Except it would shine in on our computer screens and then we could not see a thing. Cue lots of huffing and puffing when they were closed again. So YANBU but it is impossible to please everyone!

Yep all the time. A soon as May comes, the ac is switched on and I spend the whole summer shivering in the office with a big thick cardi on and the heater under my desk aimed at my feet.

why they have it on when it's not even warm is beyond me.. I would much rather they just opened a few windows but hey, apparently us women are always cold.

See, I'm in the opposite camp (don't shoot! I come in peace!) I'm naturally warm blooded, and suffer with shiverers who sit there in a T-shirt asking for the window shut and the heater on, so I'm sitting there pink and shiny and unable to remove any more layers for the sake of decency. Until they start organising office space according to temperature preference, it's a no-win situation.

I relise everyone has different temperatures but what I find odd is that its too cold in the summer and too hot in the winter.

I think its more the unnatural high and lows that get to me, its either going from an icy office to q hot outside or a furnace inside to a cold outside.

I think they should aim to keep the office around 18 degrees at all times - so heating or air con as necessary. That's the kind of temperature where cold people can wrap up in layers without needing a coat, and warm people can feel comfortable whilst still wearing enough clothing to remain decent!

The problem is when someone comes in and decides it's too warm (at 20 degrees) and changes the thermostat to 5 degrees rather than a more sensible 15 degrees (and vice versa). Also, people who refuse to adapt their dress to suit the temperature are so annoying.

My DP is like Attic. Windows open even when it's snowing outside. He feels really clostraphobic when it's too hot in a room.

I started working from home in November and the BEST thing about my garden office is that I have the temp exactly how I like it. Hoo bloody ra!

I work in a predominately male field and as is common in an office, the men wanted it cooler than the women. I used to get really resentful about having to wear a million layers to keep warm. The suggestion to open a window was met with shocked faces. I used to try and get in the office first and sabotage the aircon (sorry, climate control...snort) by opening the windows. Rebel.

Maybe that's why I got shoved out into the garden office!

I don't have this problem, my office has no air con or proper heating and so is baking hot all summer and freezing all winter

YADNBU!!! I like my office warm. I have a radiator that I'm not allowed to turn on anymore because I racked the price RIGHT up for the quarter. I'm now sat here freezing my tits off. we had clients complaining about the heat, too. I have circulation problems and I'm always cold.

18 when you're sat at a desk is too cold. I'd be wrapped in a full on duvet! A constant temperature would be good in an office, but one that reflects the total lack of activity if you're just sat at a desk all day.

You are so NBU! This is my bugbear at the moment!! I had to have a fan heater on next to my desk to counteract the a/c, and wear gloves. Result: I am now being strangled by the glands in my desk.

I think what bugs me is people come in and it's hot because they've just been trotting to work so they turn it to maximum cold, maximum blow! An hour later after sitting sedentary (some) people are freezing so they turn it off completely/turn the heat up. An hour later people are too hot.

A little bit of patience and just turning it to a middling setting.


That said, I don't think temperature is a real thing. It can say 19 and I'm too warm, and say 22 and I'm too cold.

As a healthcare worker in hospital on a busy ward with a Perspex roof it's fecking boiling I struggle to keep hydrated and to not pass out or fall asleep from the heat. They've even taken our water cooler away because apparently it's too expensive. it's hideous in the summer. I love going into the X-ray dept or theatres with a pt as they have aircon.

Total bugbear of mine and I agree all workplaces should have a constant temperature. I fail to understand the logic of cranking up the air con just because its warm weather - it will feel cooler just by comparison when you walk in from outside and you'll soon cool down if you have a sedentary job, which people in most offices do.

I have loads of extra clothes I have to pile on whilst in here in the summer but still spend most of the day frozen to my fucking keyboard whilst looking at the nice sunny day outside. Ridiculous.

Similarly, why do people want to put the heat on high and sit in tropical heat when it's a tiny bit cold outside (whereas if it was tropical heat due to the weather, they'd be demanding air conditioning)?

I had to wear a sweater in the office yesterday, even though it was 101 F (38 C) outside. People tend to overcompensate, I think.

I snapped one day at my boss. Everyone was buggering about with the aircon. Window open for fresh air. Radiator permanantly on because it was broken. Cold air blasting on my neck because everyone kept saying "ohh turn it down it's too hot".

"Do you realise it's under 16 degrees where I am sitting. Under the shops and factories act I'm entitled to walk out until it's put back to a decent temperature".

They turned it back to 19 degrees. I was still shivering, but at least I could move my fingers.

What is the minimum temperature for working in?

My local Teco Ecpress is always freezing, I'd hate to work there. I would probably spend more, instead of racing around to get out of there, if they turned the heating up.

I think it's 16 degrees? But people have become so used to living in hot modern houses they think that's cold. When I worked for myself I didn't put any heating on until it got down to 12 degrees.

Update on my story, I snapped and sent my notice in, before that everyone kind of found it funny that I was in a coat and a hot water bottle on lap. Now they take it seriously.

Being cold all day made me miserable and grumpy.
