AIBU?

To find the Queen's new coach utterly ridiculous

Not to mention archaic, disturbing (has fragments of the Mary Rose and Sir Issac Newton's apple tree built into it?!) and a giant waste of money. I looked at it and just thought "Why?"

Anyone else feel slightly annoyed and disturbed at the thought of an adult thinking it's a good idea to ride around in such a contraption?

Oh, I think it's cool!

If you're going to have a Royal Family, you might as well dress them up a bit - where's the fun otherwise?

I'm not actually a great fan of the whole monarchy thing, but if you're going to do it, you might as well do it right. She'd look daft(er) in a hobbit-style horse and cart.

YABVU.

That's why half the tourists come here. To see bollocks like that.

If we had cycling plain-clothes royals like in Holland nobody would give a fuck.

I'm glad the Queen has got a new Cinderella coach.

Also I think it's been privately funded.

If you read the Mail article it was made by an Australian and didn't cost the taxpayer anything. I don't see the problem with having a bit of pomp for state occasions since we have a monarchy currently.

I think it's amazing

I'm sure the tourists do too

It's fabulous and a creation to be proud of.

I love our "Pomp and Ceremony".

They pull in more money than they cost, we then get the tail end, in Liverpool of tourism, because of the football.

The UK would be going bankrupt if it wasn't for the Spirt and History, which having a working royal family, keeps it if interest.

Didn't cost the tax payers anything but brings in millions from tourists who delight in seeing these type of things. Don't see what the problem is really.

If it's privately funded that's better. Still think it's creepy and odd though. Take your point about the tourism.

Like the old saying goes......"If you've got it - flaunt it!!"

Pomp and Ceremony - bring it on in style (the tourists, who bring in millions, love it).

Stop being an old misery OP.

What's creepy and odd about?

It's a moving time capsule, that means we will always have a piece of the past.

Blair took away her yacht. The least we can do is let her have a coach.

MonterayJack · 04/06/2014 18:51

Birdsgottafly I think the moving time capsule concept is what I find creepy. I'm all for things from the past being carefully preserved but why bung them in a coach?

She has had to one-up the Pope.

I'm not a Royalist by any stretch of the imagination but that coach is just ace. Grin

I suppose they could always pop her on a National Express

OP, I'm with you. It's ridiculous and a complete eyesore (to my mind anyway).

And the craftsmanship - fabulous.

Worra :) As long as they embed a scraping of Henry VIII's toenail in it, that should be perfect.

Pomp and ceremony is what we do best. It's why people from other nations flock to see our royal family and all the blingy shit that goes with them.

Oh they will. I take it you've never sampled a National Express sandwich then? Grin
