AIBU?

To have told ds that babies come from a vagina.

It looks like the wacky stories about babies have hit the playground.

Ds asked me how do babies come out of the mummy's tummy.

I didn't want to lie to him, so I told him.

I am now worried that he will tell his classmates and his teacher will pull me aside.

The stories he was told was quite funny, that babies come out of the belly button and they come up like vomit. Most sensible one which I explained was also correct was they cut open the belly.

I doubt the teacher will pull you aside

Many many parents tell their kids the truth and the schools manage fine

Of course YANBU. How old is your son, though? Because my two year old knows where babies come out of the mummy, and that sometimes the doctors and nurses cut open her tummy and take the baby out a special way.

I think it is fine! My ds (5) asked me this just the other day and I said that mummies have a special place where the baby comes from and I'd explain more when he was older - cop out! I had c sections, so I told him about that too - much easier!

You've just reminded me of something

When I was little I overheard my Aunt telling my Mum about the midwife delivering her babies.

From that day on, whenever I saw our local midwife riding her bike in the street, I thought she was delivering babies to various houses.

She even had a little basket on the front of the bike Grin

of course YANBU! the teacher would have no business telling you off.

I've heard the vomit one before - it's kiddie logic - baby in mummy's tummy keeps making her sick - Mummy goes to hospital and comes home with baby - now no longer sick, therefore she has successfully sicked up the baby!

I told DS they come out like doing a giant poo but not out of a lady's bum but a special baby hole. The daddy uses the same hole to put a seed in. I was never spoken to by a teacher about it and he was about 5 or 6 when he asked. He didn't ask what it was called though and I never volunteer more than the exact answers to his questions.

You aren't being unreasonable, when my twins were nearly5 we watched a birth on one born every minute (I picked a calm quiet birth!) they loved it and had so many questions afterSmile

I can't believe he asked, it was so random while I was bathing him.

DD is 6 and knows there's a hole for wees, one for poos and one for babies. We've left it at that for now.

I can imagine the kids nodding along when the other kids tell them that babies are sicked up, or come out of the belly button.

Then the OP's DS says they come out of the vagina and all the other kids laugh and say, 'Now that really is ridiculous' Grin

YANBU. My mother laughed at me when I thought babies came out of your belly button (what else is it for?) at the age of 7 (a more innocent time). She never did tell me where they came from - may have said 'bottom' in a coy and embarrassed manner. Fortunately, I had school friends who were more helpful.

I doubt they will believe him, he has a vivid imagination.

As others have said, YANBU, ds (aged 6) knows all about it too, since he likes to ask me questions about everything from dinosaurs to computers to circuses to babies and back again. I did suggest that he doesn't talk about it with his friends because all the mummies and daddies get to decide how to tell their children about it.

I showed my kids loads of water births like this after I caught them watching day time US birthing programmes that had a lot of screaming and cutting.

2min 20 of this

This:

They both know where babies come from and when their baby brother came they both asked if he came out of my vulva.

I told my dd they came from the middle bottom or baby hole. She knows where this is on the body.

DSS1 was 7 when I was pregnant with DS and pondered aloud when God put the baby in my tummy.

I was horrified, bough Babette Cole's book (thank you mumsnetters) and set the record straight with him and DSS2 (then 4).

We gave them the facts in an age appropriate way which is surely our responsibility. Bless DSS1 for casting me as a born again Virgin Mary (he was going on the nativity) but no, they need the facts.
