AIBU?

to think my colleague was thoughtless and ruined my lunch?

Yesterday the canteen at work was closed so two work colleagues volunteered to drive and pick up lunch (we work in an area where it would take 15 minutes to walk to the nearest cafe and only have half an hour lunch.)

It was decided they would go to KFC and McDonalds. I had spent an hour previously complaining that I had got food poisoning last time I went to KFC. So I ordered from McDonalds and said to my colleague, please just get me the American burger of the week.

My colleague returned back with a Louisiana burger which is a chicken burger! When I said I had been complaining about getting food poisoning from KFC that it was common sense that I wouldn't want a chicken burger.

Their excuse was - they had other peoples lunches to get, I hadn't been specific and that they hadn't really listened when I complained about my food poisoning.

I too would have bought you the chicken burger

Because I heard you specify KFC, not all chicken in the universe

If you got food poisoning from one place it doesn't mean you'd get it from the same food somewhere else

That's crazy.

Getting food poisoning from KFC meant that you want KFC. Fair enough.

You needed to specify that you didn't want chicken, if that's the effect that it has had on you. Most people wouldn't make that connection.

Also, they got you exactly what you asked for. It wasn't their fault that the American burger of the week was chicken this week.

If that was the "American Burger of the Week" they bought you exactly what you asked for so YABU.

Why don't you take your own lunch into work and avoid the issue in future.

I think YABU. It's not obvious its chicken you are worried about more KFC so unless you specifically said no chicken I think they were doing a kind thing.

Yabu, how are they supposed to guess what you meant. Don't be ridiculous, at least your colleague went and got it for you.

You sound like a bit of a diva to be honest - if I was your colleague I wouldn't get you lunch again

Yabu, go yourself next time.

You spent an hour talking about having food poisoning?

Let me guess, this is a reverse?

If you really went on for an hour about food poisoning, are you surprised people tune you out?

Agree that not wanting KFC does not rule out all chicken in the universe. In fact, because you went to KFC I would assume you liked chicken.

This is a reverse AIBU isn't it?

Well considering they bought you exactly what you asked for YABU. How are they supposed to know that you don't what chicken? Just because you got food poisoning from KFC doesn't mean that all chicken makes you ill.

Crikey, no wonder they hadn't really listened to you complaining, you sound a bit precious!

You spent an hour complaining about food poisoning?

They got you exactly what you asked them to get. There is no reason why you should get food poisioning from all forms of chicken. Actually, there's no reason why KFC should give you food poisoning next time. you were just unlucky.

Why are you eating that crap to start with?

YABU, I would assume that your objection to KFC was to the cleanliness or otherwise of the premises and food preparation standards - not the fact that it was chicken! It would not have occurred to me for a second that you didn't want any chicken.

No, another colleague agreed with me that it's common sense that if I was no longer could eat KFC because of food poisoning then you wouldn't go out and buy KFC.

Also they only got the Louisiana burger because it was showing on a board when they ordered. Pretty much all of the American burgers are beef. Chicken is just an alternative.

"My colleague returned back with a Louisiana burger which is a chicken burger! When I said I had been complaining about getting food poisoning from KFC that it was common sense that I wouldn't want a chicken burger."

That doesn't follow to me tbh.

Why didn't you just ask for a burger?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I doubt anybody will be offering to go and get your lunch again.

Anyway, how do you know KFC gave you food poisoning?

Report
RiverTam · 09/05/2014 10:01

it wouldn't occur to me that you meant you didn't want chicken, just that you didn't want a KFC.

YABU because I had the Louisiana burger yesterday and it was blooming delicious! Grin
