It's so disgusting. This is what happens when you put profits above quality and care. Minimum wage staff who see it as another job and not as a vocation. What happens to the 1000k they charge weekly for a place in a care home.

Its really upseting and its something that will affect us allm, we all as a society need to demand better. care home owners are sooooo rich,. I have heard of bentleys pulling up owners swanning in and yet a resident so de hydrated on verge of getting ambulance called....

I've worked as a care assistant in nursing homes. It was amazingly rewarding, but unbelievably tough. It needs to be much more highly valued and better paid, then staff can be chosen, monitored and vetted much better.

In the home I worked in I asked the manager can I add some more sippy cups to the shopping list because we didn't have enough - got told to ask the BIG boss. Asked her and she said 'NO this home isn't making enough money as it is!'

I wish there was some sort of system where it wasn't private and didn't try to make profit. Like the aim was just to break even but at a comfortable level so all needs were met.

In one place I worked, I remember the people who'd been working there for years (who generally had bad backs, bad tempers and very hard lives) would sometimes say shocking things ("leave her sitting in it - that'll teach her", etc.). It was part of the culture and, even more shockingly, I reckon these people didn't start out "bad".

i agree Ruushi and there also needs to be regular training for the staff, to talk about their issues, let out steam and be reminded of the vulnerability of hte patients, stop their dehumisation...be reminded that these people are their clients !!!! And be reminded that its a crimnal offence to mis treat them.

The home I worked in was stunning, like a country mannor, soup was heinz, food budget was pence a day, soup served cold, people ignored....people written off as difficult and rude, staff members pushed out...people not fed properly...

I agree, Gobblino. Also, perhaps even more importantly, staff need to feel valued, respected and not overworked. No amount of training could stop this stuff without that, I think.

There is so much abuse it's unreal. Not just because there's evil people out there, but the smaller things are generally down to a lack of training, and basically anyone can walk into a carers job as long as their criminal record is clear. That shouldn't be the case, but the wage is that low...

Even when people have been in the job for years they become accustomed to bad care and forget they're looking after human beings. I got BOLLOCKED because I refused to do what two senior carers told me to do. They wanted me to feed a lady in bed. No problem. The problem was she had soiled herself and it was everywhere,all over her legs, belly, the bed. They refused to let me change her first. I reported it. Guess who got into trouble...

Oh and a resident punched me and burst my nose and lip so I left him in his wheelchair in the lounge to calm down and so I could clean myself. He ended up assaulting another resident and knocked his tooth out. I got disciplined and threatened with the POVA register because apparently it was my fault.


Sorry I'm ranting. But it's just so frustrating seeing bad care, reporting it, getting the blame for doing so, not being supported by management :(

I really think this is rarely about evil individuals but about the kind of fucked-up abusive culture that develops under intense pressure.

But yes, Gobblino, there are probably some people who are really badly suited to the job but go for it because it's relatively easy to get the work.

I can see that staff generally are underpaid and overworked but as others have said it's due to all the owners been interested about in profit! Something needs to change! There is no excuse for the way there treat though speaking to them like shit mocking them and actually physically assaulting them

And I bet there are ppl being forced to take jobs in care work while they are signing on at job centres.
JCs can say "take the job or be sanctioned" But the person may not have the right disposition or character for it. NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE but its the sort of job you HAVE to want to do.

I recently read the CQC report on the home I worked for, they got very good. Pah. If only they did on the spot checks, or sent someone undercover.

under intense pressure* whilst I certainly think the work and pay of the care worker MUST be upped and taken more valued.....there was no intense pressure in our home.

People were simply de humanising the clients and were bullies with no one to stop them or anything....

Just like that lady on the tv calling that lady a Bitch.

CQC is not worth anything, they have recently admitted they need to have inspectors who have worked in the field to know what to look for....

This is terrifying me. So upsetting. Thise poor poor people. I hope i never have to semd my parents or any family into a home. I will do everything in my power to keep my family ar home when they are older. This is disgusting. So scary. So fucking infuriating.
