I have just had an email off PayPal asking me to verify my bank details as I have almost reached £2100 spending limit.

This isn't all from me, i order a lot of things for family members who always give me the money as they trust me to do safely online shopping where as they are not confident.

Is this a scam, as I have never had an email like this.

You can use NORTON website checker

It sounds dodgy to me?

Can you seperately log into your PayPal account but not through any links in the suspicious email.

Does the email address you by name and include any other personal details - phishing emails tend yo be generic

Firstly PayPal will always address you by name in emails. Any generic greeting like 'dear PayPal user' is a scam. Secondly, if you click on where it says from: PayPal it will show you the actual email address it comes from, if it's a scam it's usually from a yahoo address or similar, a genuine one will come from PayPal. And you can go to your PayPal account (via Internet browser, not clicking on any links) and if it's genuine I'm sure there will be something on your account info.

If you did click on a link in the email and if you think it may be a dodgy email then I would immediately change your PayPal password.

Is the balance about right? If so, and it's also addressed to you using your name it's probably ok but still don't click on any links in the email just to be super safe. Smile

if you go onto paypal there are limits on there. You can lift the limits when you go into your account details

see i thought it was paypal.com not .co.uk

log in through the normal paypal site

You can't tell if an email is fraudulent from the general look of the email as the scammers will copy the legitimate sites perfectly

log in through the normal site (if you type in .co.uk it takes you to the .com site) and check your limits are what is specified in the email. It could be legitimate or it may not

why not?

Does it address you by name?

I had a similar one when approaching my limit and it was genuine.

If it addresses you by name and you think you are approaching that limit it is genuine.

I had a fake paypal one once but it didn't give my name and was littered with spelling errors.

It's normal- if you spend more than x amount a year, you need to lift it. I think there's a small fee and it does take several days to verify via your bank.
