black tights!?

I am very poor, the dress is all I have but am brightening it up with colourful accessories.

I hate my legs, I have scars on them from an accident surfing a few years back so want to cover them hence the black tights.

Will this look like I'm going to a funeral?

Yeah a bit, could you use flesh-tone tights?

Tulipblank · 24/04/2014 12:44

Would your funds stretch to a new pair of tights? Maybe in a colour to co-ordinate or compliment your accessories.

If it's a sunny day you may feel very sombre in black tights.

I think black dress is fine.

I wouldn't. Although I have often seen it.

Because black is a colour associated with funerals you run the risk of upsetting the bride. Or looking like you don't care if you upset the bride. Or looking like you don't know any better. None of which are good scenarios.

How about some fish net or patterned tights?

Or footless tights?

I think black dress is fine but agree about the tights. Nude or coloured to match your accessories would work.

I've never understood the reasoning behind black being a faux pas at a wedding.

Men where dark, black, navy suits to both weddings and funerals and nothing is thought of it. It's also generally the same suit as well!

Yet a black dress is a frowned upon!

Honestly good quality 'nude' tights cover a multitude of sins. Go for a 'natural tan' in a gloss finish rather than matt (sounds like paint) as it will bounce light off your legs creating a natural photoshop.

There was a lady in a black dress at the wedding I was at last weekend. She had on nude tights and teal heals and a patterned pashmena(sp?)on with it and wore a chunky multi coloured beaded necklace and bracelet. She looked fab.

Coming from a bride to be in 9 days, and someone who is mostly broke, and whom black suits more than any other colour, I don't see an issue at all. There was lots of black at the wedding I attended last week, all brightened up with accessories and no one was fussed. Everyone looked lovely.

I would, but I never really got over my Goth phase.

Coloured tights are very "in" at the moment.

I've worn black with black tights, I think it sounds fine, sparkly necklaces/scarfs/hair accessories and you'll look lovely.

I've worn black to a wedding would have to my own if I could have and no one minded. Accessories are your friend. Anyone you could borrow a fancy hat from?

oh yeah - you could go for opaque coloured tights if you can find some which work

In real life no one I've met has ever given a toss about black at a wedding. And as a bride tbh I wouldn't have cared if someone came in their best track suit if that was genuinely all they had. I invited my guests because I wanted them there, period. Agree with getting a new pair of nude tights if you can, but if you can't don't worry. And btw I've been to funerals where young men have turned up in black track suits and black baseball caps, removed on entry to the chapel. What you wear means nothing compared to what is in your heart and your mind.

It is not an issue imo. Why does it matter that it's black?? The last few funerals I have been to hardly anyone has worn black anyway.

If it worries you wear a bright cardigan/wrap and hair flower.

Wear it. I never noticed what people were wearing at my wedding apart from some twat wearing a Kickers jumper
Not so keen on coloured tights - I keep seeing blue legs round here - it's as if they are half smurf.

As long as you don't wear a black veil as wail "He was mine , MINE I tell you" then the black dress with colour is lovely.

I bought two dresses for my wedding, a long cream lace one and a black cocktail dress. I wore the cream one but if it had been in black.......

(Might suggest re-newing vows to DH) Grin

The bride won't give a shit what you're wearing.

Or at least I didn't give a shit what people wore as long as they were there.

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with wearing a black dress to a wedding but I do agree with others that black tights may be OTT. I think nude tights would look much better.

Also, what about Sally Hansens Airbrush Legs? It's like foundation for the legs and is great for evening out skin tone. You could probably even use this under your nude tights to help camouflage your scars.

My own bridezilla DD has declared noone is to wear black to her wedding. If the bride has not declared this, she has fewer bridezilla tendancies than my DD you will be fine.

The bride is a very close friend and has already told me I can wear whatever the hell I like as long as I'm there. Just dont want other guests judging me...

I agree if you can manage flesh or coloured or fishnet tights probably better.

There is zero issue with a black dress these days.

Wear lots of bright accessories and you'll be fine.

I think Tulipblank's idea of coloured tights is a good one. Nude tights are often a thin denier and ladder really easily - as someone similarly quite poor I feel really bad about spending money on something that lasts for one or two wears max. Confused On the other hand coloured tights tend to be of a thicker denier, thus lasting longer and also covering up your legs more if you definitely don't want your scars to show, and would look very cheerful if in a bright colour. Then again it depends on your personal style / preference for such things!

That said I wouldn't have thought black tights and a black dress would cause comment if they were with bright accessories. Do you have a bright cardigan / could you buy a brightly-coloured pashmina? (These can be as cheap as a few pounds on amazon or from the 'pop-up' style shops you see in some cities). Maybe I was a particularly unobservant bride but I don't think the clothes our guests were wearing even crossed my mind that day?!
