to give DC tinned pineapple?

DS has developed a love of pineapple from having it a couple of times at nursery where they do it from fresh.

Cutting up a fresh pineapple seems like a massive faff but, if it would be better than tins, I am well prepared to be told IABU.

I'd get the kind in juice not syrup.

Awaiting your wisdom.

Why on earth not? We get through a fair bit of it!

How about those slices of fresh pre cut pineapple rather than tinned? That way it'll surely be better?

Go for it. I hate chopping pineapple so tins it is. Fruit in tins still counts as a portion.

We have a tool for cutting up / decoring pineapples ,it takes my DH about 10 minutes to chop it up and works out much cheaper than tins and is nicer . We always have bowls of it ready in the fridge .

Not being unreasonable at all

My DS loves the pre-cut fresh pineapple from the supermarket. I just can't seem to find the motivation to chop one up myself.

Nothing wrong with it. I don't think it is a crunchy as fresh pineapple though.

You can peel and cut up a pineapple and store it covered in the fridge for a couple of days.

At the moment pineapples are quite reasonably priced- Aldi 79p this week. I can eat a full half ot myself quitehappily :)

I hardly ever buy an actual pineapple. It's so messy and such a pita to clean. The kids probably have tinned pineapple once a week, it's a favourite here for dessert, especially with icecream on!

Oh good I can do it relatively guilt-free. Thank you once again for your sage advice.

Delicious. My mother would serve it with evaporated milk!

I have a little gadget from Lakeland that makes cutting pineapples so much easier. (Not that I have anything against tinned)

Tin opened and duly snaffled by DS. I was looking on longingly as it my fave fruit but if I eat it I break out in hives!!

(Mind you, there is Piriton in the first-aid box......)

I dont know where people get the idea that putting fruits orvegetables into a tin makes them inferior. When actually its often tge opposite, tinned doesnt deteriorate with storage the way "fresh" often does. Is it that they think its lowerclass or something? Confused

LIZS · 22/04/2014 18:34

ds eats it for breakfasts all the time - convenient and "fresh"

I prefer tinned pineapple to fresh!

HazeltheMcWitch · 22/04/2014 18:35

OP, why do you need MN permission for tinned fruit?

Report
McSnuff · 22/04/2014 18:36

If you break out in hives, OP, it may be because you're allergic to a particular enzyme in raw pineapple. Cooking it - which happens when it's tinned - destroys the enzyme. You may be OK with tinned pineapple, if you can wrangle it out of your DS's hands, that is.

I Am Not a Doctor. I just have the equivalent for kiwi fruit (no loss) and a mate who has the pineapple version.

Not permission. Just opinions. I'm not an expert on tinned vs fresh (nutritional values, is it just laziness etc).

Isn't that what AIBU is for?

I've never thought about it like thatMcSnuff. I'll have to conduct a self-experiment as its been so long since I ate it. Thank you.
