AIBU to buy a tumble drier.

I have been without a tumble dryer for 17 years. I have 4 kids and work full time.

Bear in mind that I am well tight, but I have a dream that a tumble dryer will make my life better.

Should I loosen my purse strings, or continue living like a Victorian?

Depends if you have room for an airer. I have a washer dryer and dry 90% of stuff on an airer in my utility room. If I had to use radiators etc then I would buy a dryer

Mine has changed my life - DS is a toddler and continuously needs a change of clothes, I work full time and we have very little space to air dry everything for when we need.

The only thing that tumble dries apart from DS's clothes are towels, bedding and certain pieces of underwear. My clothes still need the radiator and the tank, but it has saved me loads of time for DS's clothes. The other bonus is that anything that goes in there just needs shaking out and lying flat, no need to iron, godsend!

No idea how I'd manage without one TBH. I didn't have one pre-DC and bedding was washed according to the weather - wouldn't get away with that now, 2 DC later.

I love mine. I got one when we lived in a house that only had storage heaters and was therefore useless to try and dry clothes.
I now live in a house with proper heating but I still use mine. It makes everything so much easier.

YANBU. I don't know how people manage without them. Although I use mine far more in winter than summer.

I am so sick of airers, and radiators full of clothes. I know that running them is expensive - is it worth it though?

Yabu... I have 2 kids under 5. I've never owned a tumble drier. We just bought some aiirers you hang from the ceiling... The empty space above the stairs is a good place for one.

I always wonder what id prefer... a tumble drier or a dish washer. I think dish washer, although I don't own either!

Far too cold and rainy in Lancashire to do without one, my stuff would never dry outside and takes far too long inside and ends up smelling!

YANBU, as long as you have the money to buy it and can afford the electricity to run it. Why would it be unreasonable? I don't have one because I think they cost a lot to run and make clothes kind of misshapen, plus I don't have the space in my utility room for one anyway.. but it doesn't bother me to have clothes drying in the house, which apparently does annoy a lot of people. Considering you have a big family I think it makes a lot of sense.

But what do you do when it's too warm to have the radiators on but not warm enough to line dry? We've not had the rads on for a few weeks here but have only been able to line dry a few times. Without a drier the house would be full of damp washing so we'd have to open windows and put the heating on.

YADNBU! I only run mine on the half power cycle and it dries v quickly (my washing has 2 extra spins as I assume spinning is cheaper than drying). As it's in my kitchen, the heat is used by us too.

I love mine in the winter (dry outside rest of year).

I posted similar here a few months ago just before buying my first tumble dryer. YANBU. Buy it. Just make an effort to line dry outside whenever possible. For things to dry on an airer in my house when it's too wet or cold to line dry outside it takes 2-3 days or needs the heating on all the time.

Op - yanbu. I'd never had a tumble dryer until 3 months ago. My house was like widow twankys with bloody airers. I have a 4 and 2 year old and loads of washing. I finally got sick of it and got a dryer. Revolutionary!!! I love it. Super-quick washing and drying.
