this is obviousely light hearted.

i saw an advert for mc cains frozen ready meal jacket potatoe... it gave me the rage the more i thought about it.

i mean why?.. seriousely why? just why?

surely you have to put it in the oven/microwave the same way you would put a normal bloody tatty in right?

are people really that easly fooled by advertising?

they cant be lazy as there doing the same amount of work by using them.. infact its costing them MORE?

do people need a box with instructions to know how to cook one?

i dont get it.

i reaally reallly dont fecking get it!

i cant be the only one.

i realize its not rational to be THIS raged when i think about it.. but i dtiabu

The potato is ready cooked, so when you buy it you just microwave it and have a proper jacket potato. Or that's the theory, they're not that great in reality.

For me, it's the convenience of having them in the freezer for when I haven't shopped and come home late etc.

I bloody love them Grin

I'm never organised enough to think that I'm going to want a jacket potato in 2 hours, I'd better put one in the oven now... 5 minutes in advance is perfect though.

but surely they take 10-15 minutes 30 minutes max.. in the microwave? if you want easy.

i will have to buy some just so i can feel fully justified in my rage of them. a bit like some one who hates a book but has never read it.

10 minutes in the nuke box and 20 minutes in the oven, perfect jacker spud in half an hour! No need to McCains to take my hard earned!

cakey Me too. 10 mins in microwave, 5 mins in halogen oven to fluff and crisp. Apparently, you can buy frozen mash, too. I just do extra, then freeze. Never thought of freezing baked pots too, must give it a try. Has to be way cheaper than the McCain's version.

I did proper jacket potatoes the other day. They took an hour, and tbh weren't all that.

These take something silly like four minutes and are loved by both children and boyfriend in a hurry.

Worth 1 for three imo.

Microwave potato for 5 minutes. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes to crisp up. 10 minutes and done Smile

I'm a fan, I hate my spuds being done in the microwave usually, these taste like they've been done in the oven and ready in three minutes, great if you're lazy like me in a rush.

DS usually sense when I want to eat and will wake up the minute I stand up to go to the kitchen.Hmm

Microwaved jacket potatoes from raw are horrible unless you stick them in the oven at the end anyway. 5 minutes in the microwave is much quicker.

I buy frozen mash too.

I quite like them. They're good for work, when there isn't an oven to perform the 'crisping up'! I keep them in the mini ice box in the top of the fridge which I suspect defrosts them slightly and makes them cook faster.
I've never had a microwave at home though, so have always done them in the oven.

YABU because we rarely eat baked potatoes so I wouldn't normally have a bag of fresh spuds in. Will sometimes have these in the freezer, as they won't start sprouting because they've sat in the cupboard for too long and have to be thrown away. So, slightly more expensive to buy but they will get eaten rather than go to waste so for me, better value.

How much do they cost? :-) please?

They're also perfect for wrapping in foil and 'cooking' in a campfire/ BBQ as they're much quicker.

We have them too. I feel ridiculous but no more than when I buy grated cheese. Grin

YANBU

I'm with you OP, frozen baked potatoes sound crap. I love making potato skins at home when I need a carby feast.

I think people don't know that you can make an excellent baked potato in the microwave in 12 min... followed by 8 in the grill. Jamie Oliver taught me this.

I'm with you op.

We had proper jackets tonight.

Hour and half in the oven.

Literally forget about them,

And cheap as.....well......chips, I s'pose.
