Am back on mumsnet after nearly 5 years...where has the time gone!!

It seemed apt to post this in this section where it all began and with the help and support of some truly amazing mumsnetter's it ended with me and my children starting a new life.
Just wanted to say have never forgotten over the years the kindness that was shown to me through difficult times ...brings a lump to my throat even now.

The thread title was a bit tounge in cheek...but it was that trivial title years before that sparked off a whole new life and existence.

Anyway am rambling....Thank you so much

Goes off to check we haven't run out of bread and milk

I wasn't on MN 5 years ago, so have no idea what you're talking about, but welcome back!

VintageGal Thu 03-Apr-14 23:50:27

Thank you BrokenToeOuch

Sorry guess my post was a bit confusing.
Just dipping my toes back into mumsnet after a long absence.

MrsGoslingWannabe Thu 03-Apr-14 23:51:26

What was the trivial title 5 years ago?!

VintageGal Thu 03-Apr-14 23:55:45

It was to ask DH to bring a couple of bits of shopping home.

Seems like a life time away ...

I remember that thread, wondered why it had 600+ replies
welcome back, glad things have turned out well for you.

BrokenToeOuch Fri 04-Apr-14 00:22:01

Tell us more about what happened when you asked your dp to bring you Home bread and milk the first time?

LineRunner Fri 04-Apr-14 00:27:14

Hello. Nice to meet you.

CheesyBadger Fri 04-Apr-14 00:33:41

Welcome back!

Coumarin Fri 04-Apr-14 00:34:44

Nice to meet you. smile

I'm very curious about that other thread.

Famzilla Fri 04-Apr-14 00:38:37

Can someone link to the old thread?

VintageGal Fri 04-Apr-14 09:33:48

Thank you everyone for the welcome.

As I said that seems like a life time away and was posting under the name starsnstripes then.
That person doesn't exsist anymore thankfully and have moved on with my life ....although at times I have delved back into the old threads if only to remind myself how far I have come and how the wonderful people on mumsnet got me to where I am today.

Anyway....onwards and upwards !

CrispyHedgeHog Fri 04-Apr-14 09:42:56

I remember that thread.. in fact I re-read some of it recently.. well done you and all the best for a continued happy future xx

Oldraver Fri 04-Apr-14 10:00:30

Was it really five years ago ?.

Would you like to tell us about your lovely life now ?

VintageGal Fri 04-Apr-14 10:31:28

Thank you.

Yes ..well 5 years on May 22nd...that date is etched on my mind! summarize both children are thriving at school and adapted really well to the change.
My son who had selective mutism has now been talking in school for the past 3 years and my daughter has become a confident young girl...well ahead of her years.
They both never cease to amaze me.
They still see there dad on weekends and he has given up drinking these past 3 years.
Albeit because he had a major health scare and operation and had to!
He is still the same arrogant smug person he always was but know I hold all the cards and don't stand for any nonsense.
The fact that I have coped without him in spite of him saying I never would really gets to him..he can see the change in me and the children ... I can't help but feel a smug satisfaction in that!

I am still single...had a couple of dates but to be honest it's been good to have this time alone and find myself again..whatever that means when people say that.
Guess for me it's just being that person that I wanted to be but was never allowed to be.
Think it takes time anyway to change your mindset after living with a controlling person for that many years.
Not sure it ever goes away but with time the thoughts fade and become less hurtful.

Been doing an Open University course and voluntary work and now my daughter goes to High school in September am looking forward to getting back into the workplace.

Really must learn to summarize better!

VintageGal Fri 04-Apr-14 10:35:11

...and re read my posts !

LadyKatherine Fri 04-Apr-14 10:35:51

Oh I remember your thread from back then and the specific mumsnetter who helped you leave (not forgetting the kindness shown by many others though). I think about that thread often and have wondered how you are now. I am glad to see that all is well. All the best as you carry on with your new happier life.

VintageGal Fri 04-Apr-14 10:43:00

Thanks....yes I would love to know is she still posts on here and of course all the other's who helped me through.

Although I suspect some may have name changed since then.

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop Fri 04-Apr-14 10:55:51

Hello! (Name changer here too) I remember that thread well and have often thought about you and your children. So glad they are doing so well and you got out and stayed out.
Well done you on creating a new and improved life for you and your dc xx

VintageGal Fri 04-Apr-14 11:33:42

Hello! ....*waves back*

Yes can honestly say not once in all those years did I regret my decision...I never faltered!

HolgerDanske Fri 04-Apr-14 12:29:18

I love these stories because I am sure they must offer so much hope and a light at the end of the tunnel to others who might need it.

So glad to hear you have made such a happy life for yourself and your children. I wasn't on mumsnet at the time but it's always nice to hear positive updates that prove how strong and resilient people are even when they don't know it themselves.

ConfusedPixie Fri 04-Apr-14 13:07:44

Wow. That was five years ago?! I remember your thread. Glad to hear that you are doing well smile

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN Fri 04-Apr-14 14:28:01

I was almost late for work this morning reading your previous threads and it's a massive pleasure to see you positing again and with such positivity and confidence in comparison to those old posts.
I'm very pleased to hear that you and your DC are doing so well smile

JerseySpud Sat 05-Apr-14 15:24:19

I spent the last 3 days reading all the previous threads.

And just really want to tell you how amazing you are!

DaftMaul Sat 05-Apr-14 15:39:21

What a lovely update! I knew it was you from the title.

Have often wondered how you were. Great to hear you are all doing well
