Yah is not nice to have it in your bed but it's probably not going to kill you. Just stick it outside theres unlikely to be another one.

I'm pretty sure it's always spider season where I live.

Spiders are good. I know they loom horrid but are useful around the house! To eat other bugs that is, not to help with the housework!

Report
Lagoonablue · 03/04/2014 08:27

Look horrid not loom. Though some do loom.

London zoo run a great course on overcoming arachnaphobia.

Spiders are brilliant. They eat flies. Flies are shit. Therefore spiders are brilliant.

YANBU and it's that bloody time of year now, the bastards are bloody everywhere! I despise them with huge intensity.

Get a cat? Mine snaffles them in an instant. And flies :)

UncleT · 03/04/2014 08:50

Would so like to, but for a range of reasons can't have one (for the moment). Sad

I'm not in the UK. I'm American, hence the seemingly odd hour.

I'll go look for the cat. She'll protect me, lol.

YABU. Spiders are fantastic and are the enemies of flies. Flies are disgusting. Can't stand the thought of people killing spiders, actually.

OP, I do sympathise with you as I know how real spider phobia can be. But even phobics know that it is irrational. In the UK there are zoos and clinics that can treat the phobia, and serious cases can be treated free byn our NHS. I have a friend who was successfully treated that way.

It's very possible that you 'learned' your phobia from the reactions of your mother or other relatives. Please do not teach your own children the same phobia by your own behaviour.

Not spider season??? Are you bonkers???? There are spiders everywhere at the moment!!

Report
deakymom · 03/04/2014 13:47

get some conkers? my kids are too young but if yours are older they worked the last time i tried it x

ShowMeYourTARDIS · 04/04/2014 00:15

My dog would probably eat the conkers. Hmm I don't have a proper phobia, as I can deal with spiders if I need to. I removed it all by myself without screaming.

My mother loves spiders, oddly enough. I definitely didnt learn it from her!

My mum loves spiders too.

She used to chase us with them when we were kids and try to put them down the back of our necks.

God, I loved the 70's......

Read Charlotte's Web.

Spiders are wonderful, they help to keep the mosquitos and flies down.

I'd have had a breakdown of some kind at a very young age if your mum had been my mum. The mere thought is stressing me out!

Report

She's lovely my mum.( really, she is!)

It only took me about 35 years to get over my fear of spiders after that Grin

I'm pretty ok now.I can trap any spider and put it out, and I even held a tarantula.

I live in the country and won't kill them so I've had to make my peace with them.
