It was probably because you look so relaxed, competent and in control.

Compliment, surely?

:)

Maybe she thought you were looking too well to have only given birth weeks ok? I'd expect a mum to be half asleep when venturing out with such a little one Smile

In fairness he could be, a mother of a child I teacher is a grandmother and she is younger than me at 37. I'm still trying for number 1!

Don't take it personally. Grandparents can be as young as 30. Maybe you look 30 :)

I read it as your garage, as in attached to your house where you keep your car, and wondered why you had a lady behind a desk in there Confused

I read something about the UK's youngest grandfather being 27 (ok, he's in prison for murder) but you could technically be a great grandmother by 41!

I'm only 2 years behind- don't worry about it! Grin

I laughed and laughed when dh was mistaken as grandad.I took the piss relentlessly.

I was fucking furious when, a few months later, I was mistaken as Grandma, of course.

I sympathise, op.

3/52 baby so I'm guessing you had exited the house in a rush with no makeup on - i've looked fairly dead or like a grandmother if i've not been wearing makeup since I turned 40.

Oh don't worry DH is 40 and the lady he is doing some work for keeps referring to his 22 year old apprentice as his son!

Dear OP,
I was officially declared old last Christmas Eve. I'd gone to the pub with my DH to and went to the ladies. I left the cubicle and waited to wash my hands as there were some young women(18/19?) topping up their make up at the single sink. One girl saw me waiting, pushed her friend and told her to hurry so the "old lady" could wash her hands. I'm 39 Sad Shock Blush

Ah Princess in Scotland you go from being 'a lassie' (as in, hurry up the lassie's waiting) to a lady (watch that lady's next) in what seems like the blink of an eye....

Op you were out with a 3 wk old, presumably dressed and not weeping. no-one is going To believe you're the mum! Congratulations btw x

Somebody called me a "lady" once. I had to look around and realised they were talking about me. I'm only 24, still used to being called a "girl".
When I was in primary school, a friend of mine asked me if my mum was my grandma. My mum was Hmm
FWIW, I don't think 41 is old!

I have been that woman behind the desk!

Saw a lady who works in our local greengrocer's (and who I took to be pushing fifty) with a pushchair in the park and stopped to admire the sweet toddler within. "Are you minding your grand-daughter today?" I asked, to be answered with a stony, "It's my daughter."

She has never forgiven me and is frosty whenever I go in the shop. I will never make this mistake again.

Around a year ago I was having a haircut when my mobile rang, normally I would have ignored it but I was in the middle of selling my house so, after checking it was ok with the hairdresser, I answered it.
This lead to talking to the young hairdresser about the kind of house we were looking for. I said that we were looking for a three bed as hopefully we will increase in number as a household. She said 'do you think your children will come back?' I asked her what she meant, she said 'come back from uni to live at home.'
I think that when I told her we were actually trying for number one she rather wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. I'm 38!

A child once asked me if my DH was my dad. DH was not amused, especially as he is actually 3 years younger than me!

Famzilla · 01/04/2014 23:26

Grandparents aren't "old". My dad is the same age as ou and my DD is 1. I don't get why people take such offence to be presumed something that is entirely reasonable.

Ludways · 01/04/2014 23:34

The majority of grandparents are a lot older than 41 though.

Fwiw, 41 isn't old OP

Wheresmysocks · 01/04/2014 23:38

Famzilla it imply your old!

I had to take dd to a clinic at 4weeks old. I'm very slim so when the lady behind the desk asked me who i was, I smiled smugly to myself... until she added are you Nan?

I'm 40...Wiped that smile off my face pretty quickly!

depends on what part of the country you are. Where I am at the moment, I am not surprised when women younger than me have their grandkids with them.
