To celebrate absolutely everything!

Yes I know by mumsnet standards I'm a total diva! I admit it- I know I am! I've just had an entire "mother's day weekend" and loved every minute of it.

When it's my birthday, I love it best if it falls midweek as then I can have 2 "birthday weekends" as well as a "birthday week". Last year I managed 7 seperate birthday celebrations. And I was 41 so not even a milestone birthday.

In my defense though I also allow/encourage the same amount of ott ness when it comes to the kids birthdays. We also (despite being agnostic) celebrate the following:
Birthdays
Christmas
Easter
Bonfire night
Halloween
Shrove Tuesday
New Years Eve
Valentines day

And we've recently decided to "hijack" other people's religious festivals.

For Eid we have henna parties (but with alcohol) and we also go to Chinatown for Chinese new year.

I'm gonna also look into Hannuka, Thanksgiving and 5TH July. Just in case we're missing out on a celebration there.

Seriously though - why wouldn't you?

I hate all the threads I've seen recently on here where people have been berated for wanting to celebrate their own birthday/mother's day whatever.

Well I'm out and proud!

I want/demand multiple celebrations in our house. It's fun!

The Queen has two birthdays!
Just an idea. grin

You might want to do your 5th July celebrations on the 4th, but apart from that, why the hell not!

HairyGrotter Sun 30-Mar-14 22:05:42

Erm it's the fourth of July btw

LuisSuarezTeeth Sun 30-Mar-14 22:08:38

Happy Sunday! What a lovely attitude thanks

HalfSpamHalfBrisket Sun 30-Mar-14 22:11:13

Sounds great. At work we used to find world events to justify trips to the pub. Waitangi Day, Anzac Day, Idaho Human Rights Day, Groundhog Day,
Mardi Gras, Kwanzaa...

IamaBreastfeedingTramp Sun 30-Mar-14 22:28:23

Lovely idea, I'm with you.

Much nicer than all the moaning on here about people enjoying themselves too much without justification.

Famzilla Sun 30-Mar-14 22:35:56

Well if you enjoy it and can afford it then why the hell not?

I hate hosting parties as I'm too shy/introverted so I love people like you grin

thebody Sun 30-Mar-14 22:37:35

MagzFarqharson Sun 30-Mar-14 23:14:16

Yaay, .... we always do 'Birthday Eve', 'Birthday' (Day, obvs) and 'Birthday Boxing Day'. Why not??

MsAspreyDiamonds Sun 30-Mar-14 23:30:00

I celebrate my ds's birthday twice, the day he was born & the date he was actually due. There is a 3 month difference as he is a premmie.

Go ahead & celebrate!
