AIBU to think that single people are jealous of other people with partners and children?

Am I wrong to think that my siblings who are 5 years older than me (in their early 40's) may be jealous of me because I have a long term partner and baby on the way? They've always been really close but have recently been cutting me out of things more and more. Some people have said they may be jealous but i truley don't know whats at the bottom of it.

Prehaps Some?

HairyGrotter Sun 30-Mar-14 17:22:25

You might have become a bore, OP.

JohnFarleysRuskin Sun 30-Mar-14 17:23:02

When I was single I wasn't jealous of people in relationships at all. I felt sorry for them.

It's a bit of a self-absorbed thing to say...

It might partly be jealousy, it might partly be because your lifestyles are so dissimilar and they feel that they don't have much in common with you any more.

Are they childless by choice?

EverythingsDozy Sun 30-Mar-14 17:23:31

I'm jealous but mainly because my long term partner (10 years relationship, 2 years married) left me recently.
I don't think everyone is like me though, so here, have my first biscuit

Try asking.

moonsquirters Sun 30-Mar-14 17:25:24

Oops. Some will be and some won't. I've got plenty of friends who have older children who I hardly see now I have a toddler. I'm certain they aren't jealous!

gordyslovesheep Sun 30-Mar-14 17:26:54

maybe <shrug> who knows

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark Sun 30-Mar-14 17:29:10

You're probably dull

SirChenjin Sun 30-Mar-14 17:29:13

Yes, absolutely.

In fact, they are probably all seething that you've managed to net yourself a partner and had some children, and no dounbt cry themselves to sleep at night with only their cat for company. In the morning they'll share a tin of tuna with Felix before beginning another long, empty and pointless day, devoid of a man and offspring, with only your pity for company.

HyvaPaiva Sun 30-Mar-14 17:33:00

By wondering if they are 'jealous' you assume that there is something to be jealous of.

It suggests that your life is somehow better and their lives are somehow lacking.

Maybe they recognize that assumption and don't like it.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 30-Mar-14 17:34:49

Im married with dc and an jealous of my single friends. grin

Pagwatch Sun 30-Mar-14 17:35:32

grin at SirChenjin

I love being married but Christ almighty, being single was a blast.

I think something else is going on OP. what might that be?

Rebecca2014 Sun 30-Mar-14 17:35:42

This happened to me. Me and my older sister were so close then I got pregnant and sadly our relationship has never been the same again, I have even cried over it several times as I never thought having a baby and getting married would lose me my sister. She did not seem interested in my baby at all either, my other siblings love my daughter and play with her but my older sister does not pay her much attention.

Thing is my older sister is only 26 so I don't get why she would be jealous? I think it is lifestyle change really, your life does change so much when you have a baby.

WooWooOwl Sun 30-Mar-14 17:36:01

YABVU to generalise about all single people. Your sisters might be jealous, you are in a much better position to judge that than any random Internet strangers, but the way they feel doesn't make all other single childless people feel the same.

CoffeeTea103 Sun 30-Mar-14 17:38:23

I think it says a lot about you to even think that your siblings might be jealous of you. Maybe you are just annoying.

BitchPeas Sun 30-Mar-14 17:38:35

I agree with hyvapaiva

Breeding with a man ain't the be all and end all.

(And this is from someone with a child and a partner)

IME partnered and babied people are kind of dull. All my child free and single friends are definitely more interesting than I am!! grin maybe that's it? I'm just glad they still want to be friends with me! wink

Caitlin17 Sun 30-Mar-14 17:38:36

No. They are probably irritated by how smug you've become.

FiftyShadesOfGreen Sun 30-Mar-14 17:39:19

My single, child free friends are massively jealous of my stretch marks, eye bags and skintness. I can see it in their eyes as they plan the next holiday to Mauritious, while enjoying a leisurely pub lunch following a lie in until eleven.

BuzzardBird Sun 30-Mar-14 17:39:33

Once the baby is born you won't have the time or energy to think about it so I wouldn't worry too much

I'm like Viva, I'm jealous of people without kids. The freedom to do what you want and suit yourself....
