So interesting to see how many people with very different political views attended.

One of the few politicians that I think everyone, regardless of leanings, respected. That says a lot.

Yes I know how you feel, I just the same at Mrs Thatchers two great conviction politicians.

Who are they, Poii?

Yes, I cried too.
The dignity and love shown by his family, the banners of various causes which Tony Benn championed, the crowd- many of them genuinely upset at the passing of a true politician and humanitarian.

The famous faces (and the clothes they were wearing) did not matter to me but the faces of the ordinary woman and man on the street meant a lot.

I cried just reading about it.

Trooper
Lady Margaret Thacher and Sir Winston Churchill. Anothony Wedgwood Benn just another neo commie who would have sold Britain down the shit canal along with Bob Crow and all Labour suporters inc Scargill and both the hypocrite Kinnocks.

Poii - trolling, you're doing it all wrong.
Go and make your own thread

poii My parents always referred to Tony Benn either as AWB or as Lord Stansgate. I think they did it to show their contempt.

They actually just looked mean-spirited. Hmm

He was always known as 'Wedgie Benn' when I was a slip of thing

It was a lovely send off, very moving. I cried too.

I was hoping there'd be more coverage- would have loved to hear the singing of The Red Flag and hear Melissa Benn's speech. Amazed by lack of bbc coverage- ITV gave a much better report I thought.

YANBU although I was sickened to see Gerry Adams and Martin Mcwotsit there - and Cherie Blair kissing the latter.

Poii, disrespectful and unnecessary. I doubt you can do betterHmm Wink

fuck off poii

I felt the same, Op. This was an impressive man, never a whiff of scandal or dodgy dealing about him. Bet your bottom dollar his many enemies would have found it if that were the case.

RIP Tony Benn.

And also, I am wondering where it might be possible to go to sing the likes of The Red Flag, Jerusalem and hmm maybe a bit of The Internationale these days, or is it only funerals now where you might hear them?

And so dry and sardonic. In the '70s: '(under capitalism) if you want a poor man to work harder, you must pay him less; if you want a rich man to work harder you must pay him more'. Still happening now. RIP Wedgie.

Springheeled you can sometimes get to sing at least one of those at a Billy Bragg gig.

Is it possible to see the funeral online? I was at work and missed it.

I am going to miss Billy Bragg at Latitude as I have to work in the Friday, would have loved a good old singalong. (But have gone off him a lot since his south bank skate park flipflapping)
I found a live stream video via the Tony Benn Film Facebook group. It's okish. Made me well up again.
What will we do without him? Who else is there? I can't bring myself to love Galloway, and I find Diane Abbott extremely hard to abide. Is there any credible leftie in the land? I feel part of a dying tradition.

I'm here spring .... I watched the live stream that the bloke from OccupyLondon filmed on his phone - and I wrote to the BBC to complain about the lack of even a mention on the News Channel...
