To like my job?

I work in the pub industry, I'm assistant manager just now but am currently on in house management programme to fast track me to higher management.

I love my job. My manager is on holiday just know so that means I get to attend area meetings and hear how other pubs are getting on etc and I'm really excited about what I'm going to learn and understand about the business. I'm ridiculously organised with my coursework for the management course to the point that I was showing my tutor where to find the evidence for completed work that I had already found but he didn't know where to get.

Does this make me a sad case or is it acceptable to enjoy your job so much, even if it is for the moment at least, crap pay?

Because it's an industry that is full of people who are doing it part time or as a stepping stone to fill the gap before something else, I feel like I'm in the minority to enjoy it so much.

YANBU at all. There is nothing wrong with loving your job and when I worked in the pub trade while at uni i loved it too. I could easily have made it a career.

I love my job though it's rubbish pay - I'm an outreach worker, working with visually impaired people. Not everyone's cup of tea but I love it.

yanbu at all!

I was one of the many who did pub work while at uni, and looking back I've often wondered if maybe I shouldn't have stayed in the industry.

I love my job too.can't say exactly what I do as it would out me but I work for a massive worldwide company/brand dealing with one world famous client. Most of my colleagues are students, as was I when I started, but I love it that much I've never moved.

Of course YANBU. I feel sorry for people who don't love their job, it must make it so tough to get up in the mornings!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm actually getting paid to have so much fun every day!

I'm a teacher so my pay's very good but I still don't think YABU to love your job, even if it is poorly paid.

YANBU GrinI love mine too! I get to wow creative people by taking their boring admin off their hands and freeing up their creative time. and I get to wow unimaginative people with what creative copywriting I can come up with. I love both bits.

I love how there is a basic structure to what gets done every day, but on top of that, unique situation arise and need dealt with quickly. I seem to have developed a skill for dealing with customer complaints about members of staff

Just today I had to deal with a complaint from a customer who was barred by my supervisor. This is new to me because obviously it's normally my manager who deals with it. I was able to completely back up my member of staff because I had done research, looked back on CCTV, spoken to other people in at the time etc, while remaining totally calm and having a very friendly conversation with the customer about how I was completely backing the barring, but he left on friendly terms.

The thrill I get from successfully handling potentially difficult situations is amazing!

Yanbu, my brother is a venue manager and has never been happier!

I love my job too, it's low pay compared to my previous promoted post in school, but I teach basic literacy/numeracy and family reading skills to young mums, and fundraiser for the charity I work for.

Love every minute!!!

I think it is virtually essential to like ones job. I was reading a thread on a SAHM and working mothers were saying how much more difficult it is to work, whereas, much as I loved my daughter, work was the easy part of my life.

YANBU! Given that the vast majority of adults need to work (it's a rare person who has independent wealth their entire life) I think it's incredibly important to aim to find a means of earning your living which is interesting and enjoyable as well as which pays the bills. I find my work interesting intellectually, and I also get to meet people I wouldn't otherwise come across. It's also a socially valuable job which to me matters too.

Freelance admin and marketing Singaporesling. Creative clients came from word of mouth, there's a big but close knit artsy crowd in my town. Their expense receipts are fascinating!
I can also work from home and in school hours/term time. Started when youngest was small and just earned a smidge of pocket money after child care costs but I loved helping organise people.

Life is so much better if you love your job! It is what I hope for my DDs.

I've always enjoyed my job. I had periods where I absolutely loved it, usually during new opportunities for growth or special challenges.

It is a pleasure to work with staff and colleagues who love their job. Their enthusiasm is lifting, and it also gets them noticed and they are easy to remember when opportunities become available.

I worked in pubs for a while pre children and mostly enjoyed it. Part of my responsibility was the function room, booking in parties and organising the menu, table plan and sometimes the entertainment. It gave me a big thrill when a wedding or whatever I had sorted went well and I could see everybody enjoying it!
The hours were horrendous and it was lousy pay but a lot of fun Grin
