AIBU?

to dislike my Henry Hoover?! (lighthearted post)

It's chunky, it's clunky, it's not ideal to store, it gets caught in doorways and behind items of furniture, it then turns over on its side, I often have to yank out its cord rather than it extend automatically, I feel like I've done a workout by the time I've finished with it (though perhaps that's no bad thing!), I inwardly groan every time I have to take it out.

Everyone else I've spoken to loves their Henry Hoover, so I suspect it's just me ...

I sort of inherited mine, and I hate the bloody thing. Cumbersome, heavy etc. Everytime I use it I will it to breakdown so I can chuck it out.

YANBU.

They're utterly shite. As are Dysons.

Team Miele

He knows you don't like him.

Yesssss, it's not just me!! It must be the cost that initially appeals to people, rather than the product itself. Have heard great things about Miele but am moving house soon, and not sure I can justify any more expense!

You can fit 8 cans of lager and a bottle of black tower inside a HenryGrin

Not sure if its any good as a vacuum though!

Yanbu. I have had to use them in 3 different jobs. The effort you need to put in to using it is back breaking and the floors still don't look clean Angry.

Vacuuming at home takes 5 mins with my dyson and I have to put in no effort.

Yep I use him at work too. He's called Henry the bastard and dramatically falls on his side at least once every shift.

Hate mine....he lives in the loft now.

He has been replace by a Dyson cordless which I love

It's his smug little face that annoys me the most. Sat there smiling away, all the time knowing he is doing a shit job and I am getting more and more irritated at hoovering a room 4 times to get it looking even remotely presentable Angry.

Getting him out to use is the worst part of my job.

Had a Dyson and hated its plasticky fragility and having to empty it, nasty dirty job, so when it broke got a Henry and hate how heavy and unwieldy it is.

Frankly I think I probably just hate housework and wouldn't like any Hoover. Wink

Hetty now lives in dh workshop, I feel bad every time I see her little face, but I was fed up with the cartwheels, and sticking herself to the carpet with her hose.

I hated Henry so much! Hated his shitty smiley face and that he fell over all the time. And like others have said he was not fit for purpose.
I love my red Miele cat and dog as much as anyone can love a vacuum cleaner Wink

Interesting (well, sort of!) ... thanks for your replies everyone.
Truth is, I prefer an upright vacuum cleaner. Far less effort. Until Henry breaks down (hopefully soon), I'll just have to suck it up. Sorry, I'll grab me coat!

Ha as if by magic a Henry just went pootling past at soft play... I shall watch to see if he falls over. Lazy beasts!

Ooh, can I ask if Miele is good on hard floors? Our current home has a mix of hard flooring and carpets, but the new flat will have hard flooring only (mostly wooden floorboards). We have a cat, and my daughters and I all have long hair. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but I LOVE my Henry! He is even now sitting, smiling at me having cleared the carpet of what looks like years of dog hairs ( but is actually only a week's worth of a super -shedding white long haired engish springer all over a brown carpet!) He does at times seem reluctant to keep the place clean, hiding behind doorways and dramatically falling over in a display of studied carelessness but I know exactly how he feels!

long live Henry!!

Also, I have heard good things about Vax as a cheaper alternative to Miele.

I have had a dyson, a henry and now a miele, it's the miele all the way for me, and yes Dieu it is good on all floors.

EyelinerQueen · 22/03/2014 10:03

Do NOT get a Vax. They are appalling.

I have had the Miele Cat and Dog for a year now and it has pretty much changed my life. Yes I am that sad.

I have a dog and a long haired DD. We have hard floors downstairs and carpet upstairs and it's equally amazing on both.

Honestly, it makes what used to be the most dreaded household chore an absolute pleasure. Get one!!

Henry is cute. The red whizzy-round-brush attachment is an essential: far better than the standard issue black thing.

Dieu · 22/03/2014 10:08

I notice there's a red Miele (cat and dog) in both upright and cylinder form. I'm guessing there's no difference in the performance? Think the cylinder is a bit cheaper, but it's upright all the way for me in future.

Poor Henry, he cannot be as awful as my Dyson upright.

It's too tall, it's too heavy and it's too complicated.

If you carry it by the obvious handle it falls apart.

I dare not use the complicated built in tools because the great snake of a pipe is cracking.

Report
Dieu · 22/03/2014 10:10

Agreed auntimatter, but the red brush gets completely hair clogged after cleaning our entire house only once. Not the end of the world, just a bit of a pain to remove them each time.

I have the cylinder and all the rave reviews I've read have been of the cylinder version. It's just ace. And the bags are cheap to buy on Amazon, last for ages and are a doddle to change.

I last had a VAX upright and it was so unbelievably rubbish that it's put me off uprights for life!
