To be fed up with these selfies now?

Ok ok I know it's a good cause. I'm pissed off because

  1. no one has nominated me thus making me realise I don't have any decent female friends, and

  2. these selfies don't do any one any favours, aesthetically speaking, I know that's the point, but it makes me recoil a bit when all these gormless shots appear on my fb news feed.

I'll happily donate but please can this be over now......Hmm

To be honest, the threads on here are getting on my nerves more than the FB selfies.

Plus, I like seeing people without make-up. I find it refreshing.

Just wait for copycat versions from other charities

Thing is most of my female friends don't wear makeup anyway so they just look the same

Was feeling the same about having seen lots of them on FB but having no nominations!! Just assumed that absolutely nobody wants to see me without make up even if it is for a good cause Grin

I'm going to donate anyway...

I also don't see why people here are frothing about them.

They are raising money, and it's intetesting seeing my friends without make- up. Many if them
Look so much better!

I find ot really sad that in 2014 a collection of women without makeup is seen as such a fascinating freak show. Progress anyone? Sad

Report
WorraLiberty · 21/03/2014 19:28

I think the very fact women want to do it is progressive - yes.

Comparing it to a freak show is awful though.

I've not heard anyone do that before.

Surely it shouldn't be an issue whether a woman's face is painted or not? The Pankhursts would be wondering why the fuck they bothered...

Report
pianodoodle · 21/03/2014 19:33

I think there's a fair bit of cheating going on though...lots of subtle lighting, and I suspect a couple of friends are hiding a touche eclat behind their back Wink

Report
WorraLiberty · 21/03/2014 19:36

Of course it shouldn't be an issue but as you well know nat many women wear make-up in their Facebook photos, so no make-up selfies are something different.

The fact they're choosing not to wear it for charity, has nothing to do with The Pankhursts (who I suspect might have chosen to join in).

Have you really heard people referring to it as a freak show?

The fact that so many posters are saying that it interests them to see their friends without makeup suggests it is.

I"m just a bit Hmm that all my young friends (20 somethings) are posing clearing without make-up (and look so much better without their slap), and then my friends my age (cough 40ish) are posting snaps taken in the bloody dark!!!! FGS, either take a photo or don't bother! Posting a pic where we can't see your face is somewhat missing the point.

Im bored though too. No one has nominated me either OP. I like to think it's because I don't wear make up anyway and I'm gorgeous Grin so what would be the point Wink

Do you know what I am fed up with? Threads about the selfies!

Report
ImaLooney · 21/03/2014 19:46

I too haven't been nominated but I'm hoping it's cos I've recently had a baby and people are being nice either that or I've been forgotten.
There has been a fair few threads on phere about it and I couldn't be bothered to respond but I will say now as it's increasingly annoying, that some ladies are pure attention seekers! They stick a pic up with a status that they look so horrid and would never show there face without make up usually. HELLO! :(

The fact that so many posters are saying that it interests them to see their friends without makeup suggests it is.

So 'freak show' was your own thought, just because so many people like to see what is largely a new look selfie on FB?

I think most of the women I've seen in the pics have looked natural and beautiful...certainly not like freaks at all.

I normally hate this kind of thing, but decided to take part as the fund raising has been amazing. I wasn't specifically nominated, but lots of people have put that they nominate all their female friends. Just get your photo up and do the same.

The only ones that have annoyed me slightly are the ones forgetting to mention the charity aspect.

On a lighter note, I'm not sure where it says in the 'rules' that they have to look like mug shots. Grin My news feed is covered in lots of girls looking miserable.

I'm fed up of them too but twas interesting to see how much better holly willoughby looked without make up.
Cynical me wonders how many of the selfie people also remembered to donate money.

Report
purplebaubles · 21/03/2014 19:52

Grin Indeed!

I tell you what though, I do think most women look sooo much better without all that crap on their faces. And younger! Much younger!!

I don't know how anyone with kids ever has time to put on slap in everyday life anyway. I rush out the door, and if I've washed and applied deodorant it's a bonus. I never brush my hair either (I do wash it though)
