AIBU to ask if you lost your trolley with your handbag in it and approached a member of staff what would you expect them to do?

This happened to me today and the member of staff laughed and walked off and said 'it's a bad day to lose your handbag we're short of staff'!

This has a happy ending we found the trolley and it everything in it including my handbag.

But I was a bit at his lack of help

I'd expect them to alert Security, put a call out, help you to look etc etc.

Fine customer service there OP. I'm the petty sort who wouldn't go back to a shop that gave so little of a shit.

I would expect them to at least take your contact details in case it was handed in or found later.

I'd be fuming at the response you got and think you should definitely complain to head office.

We had done a shop, paid packed etc then noticed the supermarket were doing a foodbank donation so decided to get a second trolley and go back and get some shopping to donate

So we (me and ds1) then had two trollies. I put my handbag in the first trolley as I'd put shopping in it so it was getting heavy on my shoulder.

Then in one aisle we obviously both must have had some sort of distraction and wandered of pushing one trolly for several aisles neither realising we had left a full trolly of shopping and my handbag behind!

I think you should take care of your possessions instead of expecting shop workers to parent you.

Yes it was our fault , our mistake but once approached with the details I wouldn't expect a shop worker (as you call them) to laugh and dismiss a serious problem (serious for me) either

Mind you, I wouldn't want them to put a call out saying 'can anyone see a trolley with a handbag in it..,' - open invitation to a light-fingered shopper wondering if they dare risk grabbing & pushing away that apparently unguarded trolley with a handbag on it! The best they could offer would be a sympathetic attempt to search the aisles with you..,Glad it ended happily though.

True Walkacross an announcement of 'there is an abandoned trolley with a handbag in it* may have encourged someone to steal

But they have four security guards in quite a smallish supermarket so I thought the guy might have at least said let us you find it?

Crikey, you were lucky no one pinched your bag. I did this once. I hung my bag on the hook on the trolley, did my shopping, loaded it into the car, put the trolley back in the bay and drove home. When I got home I realised I'd left my bag on the hook of the trolley. I drove back to the shop in a huge panic, my phone, cards, ID, money, my whole life was in that bag . When I got to the trolley bay the bag was gone. I wanted to cry. And then suddenly one of the shop workers saw me, and told me a customer had spotted the bag and took it into the store for me. And there it was, waiting for me at customer services.
I was very lucky that day. And I'm a lot more careful now.
