AIBU?

Plasma screened mounted on playroom wall

To think that my SIL and her husband are utterly crass and stupid to mount a big plasma screen on the wall of their newly built playroom (about ten steps from the living room where there already is a big TV) so that their 20 month and 7 month old children can watch 'their favourite cartoons'.

House is full of noisy toys with flashing lights etc so surely to let children under 2 have non-stop access to a TV is unnecessary and irresponsible.

This has been annoying me for ages because my DS (10 months) sometimes plays there and when I pick him up they say 'Oh, he just loves looking at Peppa Pig.

He's a baby, it's just moving images and noise to him. ARRRRRRHHGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'd be terrified of the bugger falling off.

Unless they're on a proper, strong wall with really good quality fittings I don't think they're very safe.

I'm just jealous that they have a playroom :o

We do this, it's a parlour house and the playroom/office/whatever has the old flat screen tv on the wall. The new ish one is in the front room. On the wall. It's very useful for banishing people to when they want to.watch something the rest of us don't. I predict I'm going to love it when the world cup is on!
It's none of.your business what they do in their own house.YABU.

How does the fact that the TV is plasma and mounted on the playroom wall , mean that they have non-stop access to it?

We have a telly in the 'playroom'

Our children are much older though, if I cast my mind back I would say that they have had a telly of their own from about the ages of 8, 5 and 4 (May have been younger, I have a memory like a sieve)

I'm not keen on wall mounted as I am paranoid about it falling off but I am also paranoid about them pulling a standard tv on to themselves (when they were younger)

I have to say YABU,

Tbh id have one in the playroom for me, so I can stick the telly on while the LOs are playing.

How do you know how much they watch anyways?

Why do you really care?

YABU - and I say that as someone with only the one TV in the house.

If we finally sort the house later this year I will probably put a bigger TV up on the wall, or at least in the playroom/snug/whatever you want to call it.

Okay, so DD is older - but I'd have done it if she was younger too. Also I'd put the gaes consoles in there and a DVD player or similar. It could then be used by anyone for watching TV or a film away from the main room.

Just because a TV is present doesn't mean it will be on all day every day.

Ad what is wrong with noisy toys with flashing lights?

We have a wall mounted TV in our playroom and my DC are just 3 and 1.

It is not going to fall off the wall (never had a wall mounted TV do that yet) and the children no more have non-stop access to it than to any other TV in the house.

What they additionally do not have access to is my lovely child-free, toy-free, adult-only oasis lounge

YABU and a bit ridiculous.

Probably should say that I have no problem with TV in a playroom! Really handy and when we were kids we had one in the playroom.

It's more that the children are so small and don't really understand enough yet to even want it that badly - they are both under 2. This particular playroom is lovely and bright with toys and nothing else (no sofa etc, just beanbags) and now there is a huge plasma dominating it...

Oh dear, I must be unreasonable!!

If it is put up properly it will not just fall off the wall. TBH it is probably better fixed to the wall than just stood on a unit.

If you don't want your DS to watch TV then don't leave him at your SIL's house.

My dc (9 and 7) don't have a tv in their playroom, or their bedroom, but I'm considered weird within my circle of friends!
I'm totally 'meh' about how many TVs other people choose to have though.

I have a playroom with a flat screen mounted on the wall :). Dh watches the footy in there, plus any other shite that he thinks is important!

I think that putting a decent TV in the playroom isn't a bad idea - it won't be a playroom for pre-schoolers for very long, and I think it's quite handy to have multiple TVs in different rooms for different purposes.

However non-stop cartoons for the under 5s is really not a great idea.

They have a 13month gap between kids? Whatever bloody gets you through the day in my book.

You are being a bit prissy. Sorry.
