I rather over-enthusiastically defrosted too much. Im trying to get my 12 week old to take from a bottle for my return to work in june but as you can tell it wasnt a success and not wanting to waste it, whilst she latched on and had a feed i polished off the milk in the bottle. My stomach did flip a little at the thought but i thought, why not? I made it, there's a lot worse bodily fluids you can drink and it actually wasnt too bad. It had a very slight taste of baked beans (i've had them for lunch 2 days running now) but not unpleasant at all. Am i weird?

It got me thinking, of all the benefits in breastmilk, as a consumer do i reap these now or do i benefit from being a lactator anyway so dont need to consume? I'm definitely weird.

I think this may be a winning weight loss strategy...

It costs you more to make it than you get back drinking it...but it is sort of transparent effort...not like going for a jog etc.

I'm in awe - I never managed to express more than a teaspoonful.

Of course not, I think it would be weird not to taste it! I could never pump that much though so wouldn't have wasted 200ml on myself, but if you've got it, drink it Grin

Yanbu, well dome I could never bring myself to drink it.

I did use it in cooking tho, in mash potato and stuff.

You are not as weird as the woman who knocked on her new neighbour's door and presented him with the gift of a homemade rice pud, proudly declaring that she made it from her own breastmilk.

I was also terrible at expressing so I'm impressed!

I've never really known what it tasted like, did kiss ds1 after a feed and tasted a little, it was super sweet. But then I did live on chocolate when he was little and now Blush

its totally not weird.
i mean i drink dairy milk so i'm not being precious - but surely it is far weirder really to drink milk made from other mammals for the purpose of feeding their young!!

One of my facebook friends drank a half pint of his wife's ebm as a 'Neknominate'. I guess it was more responsible than downing a bottle of vodka or riding a horse in a supermarket, but it still made me a bit queasy!

I suppose at least you are modeling drinking milk from a bottle to your DD...

Wow nosleep, is that someone you know or an MN legend?

I used leftover breast milk in baby's bath. Sometimes. Makes skin so smooth.

I feel so much better! Thank you all! Ive always had a problem with over-supply and a forceful letdown, Hemlock, in fact ive broken two medela breast pumps (expensive) due to the amount of milk that comes out whilst pumping and my babies choke quite a lot at the breast.

Ive got a bit of a tummy ache now, i think it's all that lactose. I cant drink cows milk because of that, i didnt think id have the same issue with breastmilk!

I don't think it's weird, but was it warm? Warm milk from any species makes me gag.

Yeah, warm milk knocks me sick!

Waste not want not! I'v never been able to pump that much but I did taste it once and it tasted exactly like condensed milk, so maybe I eat too much sugar.

My DH asked me the other day if I could survive off nothing but my own breastmilk like some kind of perpetual motion machine. Hmm

I've certainly tasted mine, I have exclusively expressed for 5 months and still going. It's bloody hard work so I can't bear to see any wasted! Was wondering if I could try it in tea Blush

Not weird.

I have drunk my own breastmilk but it didn't taste like anything.

haha!

I've never tasted it apart from the odd drop out of curiousity. I used to exclusively pump for DC1 and got so good at it that I was pumping up to a litre a day after the first few months. Never been temped to drink it though! It always smelled weird to me, but maybe that's just me.

I could easily express a couple of pints a day with my Medela when the DDs were little, but only tried tasting it once - utterly disgusting, sickly sweet and unpleasant. Still, the DDs liked it. They wanted their EBM straight from the fridge at nursery though, would spit it out if it was heated.

I've certainly tasted mine, but I was so terrible at expressing (and in fact my supply never really came in at all) that the idea of swigging 200mls of liquid gold fills me with horror, because it would have taken me several years to express that much.

The baked bean flavour, not so much...

I tasted mine, it was sweet but didn't really taste of anything.
