AIBU to consider leaving Uni?

So I'm currently doing my second year at Uni, and I'm considering leaving. DH is wanting to set up his own business in the field that he's in, and wants me to join him as the accounts/admin/office person. The company would be set up 50% in DH's name, 50% in mine. I have similar experience in other roles, I went to Uni as a mature student but to be honest, this past year especially, I've not been really enjoying Uni at all. I originally wanted to be a teacher but after doing a placement have completely gone off the idea anyway.

I work part time currently in a call centre, which I would continue doing for a while until we'd got everything established etc. At the moment, I work bloody awful shifts but could potentially switch to mornings which would work out a lot better/less stressful.

I'm really, REALLY tempted. I'm worried about not finishing my degree though, and disappointing my family. I also kind of see it as I would have "failed" at my degree.

So what do you think, AIBU to consider leaving university for this? Has anyone been in a similar position where they've left Uni part way through, and if so, did it work out for the best or not?

You won't if failed. If things don't work out you could always do it later. Grab the opportunity! I'm doing my last year of a degree and have similar experiences of placement in schools.

Could you defer for a year - throw yourself into the business and see what happens. If the business takes off then you have your answer. If its unlikely to generate much income for quite a few years then you could finish your degree if it would lead to better job prospects.

If you are not sure, why don't you take a Leave of Absence.

That way you could see how things went before making a definite decision.

If you are in your second year, then you would have started before the fees went up to £9Kpa. If you were to now take a break, you may well find that on your return you would have to pay the new fees.
Try not to be too disheartened if you are not enjoying your degree at the moment. It is very common for students to experience a second year slump. Given the organisation of the university year, you could be graduating in just 16 months.

I stopped doing my degree at the end of the 2nd year. Rather than get a BA, I got a diploma in higher education so the 2 years weren't completely wasted. Can you do this with your course if you decide to finish the year?

Looking back I've made the right choice and can always do the top up with the open university to make it a full degree.

I knew I didn't want to get a career in my course subject so made the decision easier.
