We are at my sister's, no school tomorrow (inset), trying to decide a movie. Me, sis, bro-in-law, Cabin In Woods is first choice. DD1 is almost 13. Bro-in-law says its not too bad??

I saw it a while back, it's a bit tongue in cheek cheesy with blood and guts, but I wouldn't let my 13 YO watch it.

I let her watch films that are mostly 15 because of the language like Paul, Ted, Shaud of the Dead etc, horror and violence I would vito, she does read some creepy shit (creepy pasta or whatever) but I'd feel bad if I said yes and it got under her skin.

I'd say no for that particular film. The violence is pretty gory, there's a lot of sexual references and drug use.

Depends on the child really. My 14 year old has loved horror films for a few years. However he loves special effects and is more intent on the mechanics of how they make scenes look so realistic.

Neither of us thought very highly of 'Cabin in the woods'.

I didn't have a problem with DS2 watching it at 13 - the violence and gore was very over the top and unrealistic and he's very into that genre so I knew he wouldn't be upset/scared/traumatised by any of it (his ambition is to direct horror films - he studies film-making and film history at after school clubs and his GCSE options are tailored towards him eventually studying film production at Uni, so he's quite clinical in his viewing in some respects)

DS1 at the same age would have been a different story, so it's very much down to the individual child I think. I wouldn't have agreed either if I hadn't already seen it myself, and there are other 15s I've refused.

I have seen it and even though the violence is done in a comedic/ott way, I personally think it would be too much for a 13 yr old. There's also a fairly graphic sex scene and drug references.

Well she watched it, its a bit silly TBH. Seeing as her favourite programme is the Walking Dead, I think she can deal with it.

Oh yes... DS2 isn't allowed to watch The Walking Dead as although S1 is a 15, the subsequent seasons are all rated 18! I'll relent on 15's but definitely not any higher, not for a few years anyway.

I let my 13 year old watch the Walking Dead but am careful about 15 films and some police drama's on tv. I know it sounds strange but the walking dead has very gory effects but most of the violence is zombie against human. Lots of aggressive swearing, sex, sexual violence & torture is different for me. He gets sent to bed when Silent Witness starts, actually he takes himself to bed.

He ended up watching part of the WD once, took it in his stride & enjoyed it. We've carried on letting him watch it.

Hmm well yes I can see that the Walking Dead thing is a bit dichotomous. She sneekily watched the first few of season 1 on download, and loved it. I am a big zombie/apocalypse fan, so lots of the genre around and about the house....
I watch WD first then with her. The gore is not that bad, and is mostly the emotional/survival aspects that she/I enjoy. It's good training for the apocalypse ...

ds's dad wanted the kids to watch walking dead so hed have something to talk to them about... .. their 5 and 8... i havnt seen it but i had the smarts to remind him of thier ages! ( trys to shimmer the anger i still feel at that suggestion)

i dont really go by the vewiing. but what the flim is about.. and i fi think it would scare them.. both have seen juressic park etc.. but as mine are still little i only have to worry about 12's really.

Walking Dead scares the pants off me, but I have a bit of a dead body squick in real life as well as on TV. I love it but it's a definite behind-a-cushion show!

I find the gore not too bad. There is a lot of gross, disgusting gore but after the first episode it didn't freak me out Maybe its because you don't see much happen to the humans. Lots of zombie bodies splattered, heads being punched in, zombies pulling themselves along on the floor with intestines trailing It makes me jump but if a human is attacked relatively little is shown.

I don't remember seeing zombie babies, or young zombie children so far. I think that'd be more disturbing to me.

The volume of internal organs, brains & blood is much higher than Game of Thrones but I wouldn't let my 13 year old watch that. I find that greatly more disturbing.

yeah hes an ex thank fuck, but he recently started talking to them over the web.. after 4 years of not speacking or seeing them... hes finding it hard to connect with them... he being the dick that he is... thought itd be a good idea..

im just glad and said they could talk but their conversations will be monitered and played though speaker!
