My neighbours daughters aged 5 and 3 yrs were staying at mine the other afternoon as my neighbour asked me to mind them as she had a hospital appointment. Anyway I was changing my sons nappy and the 3 yr old said to me - boys have a penis and girls have a vagina, my mum showed me on daddy. His penis is bigger than Noah's( my son). I was really shocked that she said this, Aibu to think this shocking or is this normal?

Sounds normal to me. My 3 and 5 year old DD's think this sort of thing is hilarious.

Why is it shocking?

Normal at ours. I've only DS (6) but when asked what things are, have always told him the "proper" names etc.

That she showed her fathers. Maybe it's normal, I never thought about that before. I only have a son.

My Ds used to make comparisons between all the penis' he has seen.

He used to tell DH regularly that it wasn't as big as his Grandads.

He is showing off his grown up knowledge. Nowt to be worried about.

It's normal. Don't worry.

Sounds pretty normal to me. She probably walked in on her Dad in the bath or getting changed or something and asked her Mum, who told her the correct names.

Hmm, I would say that's probably completey innocent. I can imagine doing the same, not in a 'come on daddy, get undressed so DC can look at you!' way, but just pointing out to difference if they asked. I'm a single parent though and EXDH woud never have undressed in front of the irks so it's a bit of a moot point. The youngest (2yrs) does seem v interested when her best (boy) friend goes for a wee though and often points out that carrots look like X's willy Blush

Totally normal, we've always walked around naked so the kids are well used to our bodies and we use the correct words for bits too.

Can't see anything shocking there.
What is it that concerned you, using the right words or the interest in body parts?

Sounds normal to me. Child has obviously asked her parents about parts of the body, parents answered honestly and matter of factly with the proper names.

Sounds completely normal to me. Why do you think it's "shocking"?

What she said is correct. Confused why is it shocking?

In front of the girls that should say. I'm such a slow typer, there were no replies when I started!

I doubt she actually debagged her husband and presented it to her daughter.

I suppose now that I think about it, it would be normal. I'm just not used to little ones using the proper words but I guess it's better they know the real words. Thanks

Totally normal to have a curiosity for bodies at that age and want to talk constantly about bits and bums!

Err... I'v never seen my fathers penis nor been asked to pair comparison ... its not 'normal' in the real world, it might hip-right-on-there in MN-land but no, its not normal

DarlingGrace My DF takes DS swimming regularly - of course DS is going to see him get changed? He also assisted with potty training by crossing streams of piss and racing to sink a floating bit of toilet roll. Is that "normal" enough for you?

Please don't call my DS not "Normal"

That's fucking rude.

Darling, my father only started dressing or putting a towel on to come out of the bathroom when I was a teen and there was the possibility of random teenagers wandering around our house.

He's dutch and nudity is normal there, go to the beach in Holland and you'll see everyone from teenagers to grandmothers semi or fully naked.

My mother is irish and still wanders around undressed around me and my kids if we're in her house.

Dp is irish and also grew up in a family where people were comfortable with their bodies.

So for us its totally normal not to cover up around the kids, not a 'hip mn trend' thank you very much.
