AIBU?

To think that you shouldn't be peeling your DH's oranges for him?

I share a house, that's London for you.

I've just come home to find my housemates wife lovingly preparing a fruit plate for him. Including glacier cherries on top. I'm sure most people would think this is lovely but I'm bleeding sick of it. Every night when he gets in from work she's peeling his oranges and chopping up his grapes whilst he lies on the bed watching cricket. I tell myself it's because she's not working and once she gets a job she won't have time to fanny on but I really want to wade in and tell her to shove his fruit up his arse.

They are a lovely couple other than that although it would be nice if she ran a vacum cleaner through the house occasionally

But then he might be repaying her in other ways - cherries aren't the only fruit, um...they come chopped in different ways?.. no, that's not what I'm trying to say. Er,....the bedroom? Yes that's it! Something to do with that...anyway, they're happy - he works, she chops his fruit, what else do they need?

Glacier cherries? Are they frozen ones like wot you get on Sara Lee cheesecakes?

It's not cricket season now surely?

We both work, we both chop and worse, peel, fruit for the other. There are no fruit politics in our house.

It's always cricket season somewhere in the world

How long have they been married?

So it's really The Cricket that's annoying you, not the little 'chop, chop, chop' noises going on in the background?

It's very fresh. That could be it. About six months. She's a beautiful cook. She's at it from 1 pm every day.

I've been with my DP for 10 years. Almost every night I make him a sandwich (jam) - it's a little act of love.
You are a meanie and probably jealous of the fruit action Wink

We've been married for nearly 30 years & I always peel DH's oranges for him because he hates doing it.

He always rescues spiders from the bath for me - because I hate doing it.

He does all the ironing because he is better at that than me & I hate doing it.

I sew on any missing buttons because I am better at that than him & he hates doing it.

It's called give & take & is part of marriage/partnership.

Heh

In my parents house there are only two household tasks taken up by the (very much) Man of the Household.

Doing the washing up
Peeling oranges for anyone who wants one

Grin

Maybe like me, he hates peeling oranges, and she wants him to eat fruit?

Maybe he does special things for her when you're not looking?

Aah you're being a bit mean. Unless she pops a pinny on, in which case you're not.

DH makes me a cup of tea as soon as I come home and he's works really hard at home. Plus he cooks all meals. He even ropes ds(3) into it. I once tried to make myself a cup of tea and DS stood there aghast calling for DH because "mommy can't use kettle - too hot" Blush

WTAF. It's a different world down in that London! Removing skins from an orange! How do you appreciate the delicate fleshy centre if you haven't chewed threw the peel and pith? What a waste of money, skinning fruit indeed! Op YANBU! My DH would give me a back hander if I wasted the skin off his orange. My mother peeled the parsnips. My dad objected but she was a narc and did it anyway. I've since gone NC.

Provided there's give and take I don't see the problem although personally I wouldn't last a week doing that .

I make dh's packed lunch for him every morning, as a favour. But he gets up first every day and brings me coffee in bed. Both of us thinks he/she got the best end of the deal Grin.

Do you get to eat any of it - and how often? Or is it only when she's made too much? I can see how a constant chop, chop, chop, howzat, chop, chop - here's a tidbit for you lightyhouser - chop, howzat, chop, etc might become irritating.

How come she doesn't work? Assuming from posts there are no kids.

It's not the bloody chopping it's the fact that he does fuck all and she runs after him like a blue arsed fly. However she will work at some point. Then he'll get a shock.

Agree with beamur, these are little acts of love. DP peels and chops fruit for me, I make the cups of tea. I love oranges but God I hate peeling them!

Why doesn't he Hoover?

Getting our useless university Hoover to work was DH's (then DP's) way of saying thanks to my flat mates for never moaning at him appearing every third week end for a year.
