I'm a mum, and do all of those, apart from dyeing my hair.

DomesticDisgrace Mon 03-Mar-14 08:44:32

I do them all

No, it's not part of being a mum....... but I class myself as more than just a mum personally, so whatevs.

I like hair dye and make-up personally.

TheCrackFox Mon 03-Mar-14 08:52:56

If they are "proud sponsors of mums" then where the hell is my cheque? I thought sponsorship involved money.

hairypaws Mon 03-Mar-14 08:57:05

I do all that and my kids think I'm the most beautiful mum (clearly I am not but I'll take it).

I don't really get wound up by ads, tbh I tend to switch off when they come on.

ToysRLuv Mon 03-Mar-14 09:04:57

That sounds shit. And the sponsor thing - yeah, right. Exactly who are these ads aimed at?

hiccupgirl Mon 03-Mar-14 09:06:55

I don't do any of those but hopefully my child still thinks I'm beautiful....

Can't stand those kind of adverts...'proud sponsor of mums'...pass me the sick bucket!

ginbin54 Mon 03-Mar-14 09:07:25

Nothing wrong with enhancing one's natural beauty. I do all of the above.

Seems a bit fox in the hen house here....

I use all those. Dds watch me. I do feel better when I do so too. So basically do most women....?

Stinklebell Mon 03-Mar-14 09:09:23

Well, I'm a mum and I use hair dye, mascara and lipstick. They are one part of my life, being a mum is also one part of my life

I do hate those bloody P&G adverts though.

HellonHeels Mon 03-Mar-14 09:10:06

I'd be a wreck without hair dye, lipstick and mascara. Rather lacking in natural beauty. I'm not a mum though.

winterhat Mon 03-Mar-14 09:12:00

YANBU. Makeup is unnecessary and many mums (and dads!) do just fine without it.

YarnyStasher Mon 03-Mar-14 09:15:57

Can anyone link the advert?

I basically watch no live tv. I don't know who p&g are. They're obviously not sponsoring me!

TheBookofRuth Mon 03-Mar-14 09:16:53

I used to do all those things pre-DC, now I can't be bothered 90% of the time. Even when I have the time I tend not to, because if I put it on I have to take it off at night when I'm knackered and just want to roll into bed.

However, I don't think wearing it or not makes me any less of a mother!

thinking101 Mon 03-Mar-14 09:17:07

Is it not one way of showing how people can make an effort. Depends why they put the make up on or groom themselves - what value the 'mum' places on it.

I think part of being a mum is to teach our kids to take adverts with a pinch of salt and talk about body image etc.

But yesy I use all of those and used to do so before I was a mum.

winterhat Mon 03-Mar-14 09:20:39

Why should anyone have to "make an effort" to put pigments on their face? The female face should be good enough just as it is. If people would like to wear makeup for themselves then fine, but I don't like this idea that you have to be "seen to have made an effort".

"Making an effort" is when you climb a mountain, run a marathon for charity, or finally learn a new skill you've struggled with for years, or gone out of your way to help others. It's not spending 5 minutes applying makeup.

I hate those adverts anyway.. Cheerio's, P&G and others.. only mention mums as if we are the only one's that count and have anything to do with the children.. more side-lining of a dad's role.

ToysRLuv Mon 03-Mar-14 09:34:03

I want Dr Marten's to "sponsor" me, not these patronising gloop merchants. I use my docs every day, but my make-up so infrequently that the mascara has dried up (yet P&G, my "sponsors" have neglected to send me a new one for free).

thinking101 Mon 03-Mar-14 09:36:57

winter I said in my post it is one way of making an effort. yes I agree with your examples.
